Does anyone else get an annoying desktop short cut added everytime they access this site. This one originates from NetPalNow and the shortcut is called PC Booster.
I''ve cleaned my system many times and added Ad Aware to remove any trace of spyware. Since I could not get rid of this with that program I have payed close attention to when it reappears and lo and behold...CAAviation is the site that it comes back with.
Any Suggestions as a last resort?

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. We have not put any pop-ups on our system. Is it a grey windows box that is asking you to accept and install some sort of certifcate?

No Kyle, it''s a shortcut with the IExplorer blue ''E'', and below it it has the PC booster name. I don''t know why it only shows after I log on here. I''m convinced it''s a worm of some sort, but I can''t find where it actually attached and made a new home. I''d love to obliterate it''s little nest and get on with my life, but it''s hanging on for dear life. An thus, you can understand why it''s annoying.

Do a search on google for "Spybot". It is a pretty good program that should cure it for you. You may also want to look to see what site is actually sending this pop-up and then adjust your Internet Secutiry settings prohibit any installation from that site in the future.

Mag,

I''m in here ''occasionally'' and have never seen the pop-up you mention either. I agree they are terribly annoying, and I usually don''t re-visit sites that have them.

Excuse the ignorance, but what''s all this spyware and such you''re talking about?

I''ve seen that PC booster thing on some of the FlightSim sites.ie:Simviation.....FlightSim.com or it might be on some Porno site...not that I''d really know though...Good Luck...If all else fails ..take a 12 guage shotgun and blow the bloody computer through the wall...gauranteed no more pop ups.

the spyware is usually a cookie but I am told it can be an embedded program. They basically monitor what you''ve been viewing and base their advertising on such, and they can hide from you, looking like a legitimate program. Kind of like a supervisor looking over your shoulder during work, keeping tabs on you...
I will try and see if that program helps me Kyle, I''m almost at wits end and am thinking seriously about the 12 guage idea.
One of my biggest problems is that I do not know which site started this, so I don''t know where to avoid. But somehow it''s connected when I enter here.
When I first ran the AdWare program it had found 73 items, 4 of which were a nightmare to delete from the system and needed multiple attempts and reboots to get the job done.
Do you think I hate computers right about now?

Not from this site there J. Try installing ''spybot,'' It is a Search and Destroy program designed to kill that kinda stuff. Hidden paths, cookies, etc. It''s been snowing like hell here last week, we got about 2 1/2 feet in about 3 days.....That really bites!!!
What the heck is your ''picture'' of anyways?!?

Cheers

Come to think of it, it could also be.....

It is possible to delay a pop-up for a certain amount of time. Therefore, if you visit the same sites daily, in the same order, it could actually be from, not necessarily the last site, but one before that, or one before that.

The die-hard programmers are forever figuring out ways to do it.

As for "spying" or fear of it. It really does not bother me. They really do not spy on you so to speak, they plant a cookie and then when you hit another site with one of their banners, they can see that - "Hey, this "type" of customer also visits here". Don''t really think I have the space to go into a full explanation here, but in short, if "big brother" or the advertiser firms that run these types of campaigns, have a very good idea of what Internet viewers tend to view more, then Internet viewing to me, can only get better. The catch though - it has become a competition so everyone is doing it.

The ones you really want to watch out for are Gator, or Cydoor, or xupiter - those types of programs are much more intrusive. The type of banner you are talking about is only a banner, that looks to see if there are any cookies on your system from that banner previously.

Now, we do run pop-unders at USaviation.com, this is only to assist covering the server costs. I do not anticipate placing them here, I am hoping to give the Business Directory a good go first.

Thanks for the help with this one, I think I''ll try a few more things before I blow this one to smithereens.

T-rex, if you click on the picture, it''ll blow up big. I call it ''Saddam Sized''. Once you see it you''ll now know what it is. I think it''s a good resemblance of myself actually.

Catch you later.

T-rex, I downloaded the Spybot program, so far so good. At last count I had 11 shortcuts added to my desktop. Hope they never ever come back...

I have had problems with spam just appearing on my desktop even when not logged into Explorer. I am on Shaw cable so the compters are always running. If you get these annoying pieces of shite simpl go to you control panel (Win2K), open Administative tool, then open Services, scroll to Messenger and click so you can open the properties page.Select STOP and also change the default from Automatic to Disabled. This gets rid of most of these pop-ups. I ran Spybot first and it removed 140+ cookies
good Luck
