Home schooling and evolution.

The textbook delivers a religious ultimatum to young readers and parents, warning in its "History of Life" chapter that a "Christian worldview ... is the only correct view of reality; anyone who rejects it will not only fail to reach heaven but also fail to see the world as it truly is."

At least we know these folks will not be in the science profession. I wonder how they will fair in college science classes? I guess they could just fake it to get the degree.

"If I'm planning to write a curriculum, and I want to write it in a way that will appeal to home-schoolers, I'm going to at least find out what my demographic is," Wile said.

So if the demographic believes that 2+2=5 will he write a math book to substantiate that? That has to be the most asinine rational I have ever heard.

Evangelical christians are like a transmission with 1 gear,..................forward. Forget about Reverse, they don't even have a neutral ! A lot of Evangelical's are Protestant, and among them, most are Baptists,............and among "them"...most are Southern Baptists,............and among "them",...........some are Very Dangerous people, second only to Fanatical Muslims.

This reply(to Garfield) is NOT meant to start a message board HOLY WAR !
It simply IS what it IS/Reality.

I don't appreciate the name calling as I am:

Protestant
Baptist
Southern Baptist

If some find my views dangerous it is only because as Christians we don't kneel at the alter of the ever growing Socialist State. We do not hold the Federal Government in high regard as they seek to invade every portion of our lives morning, noon and night. We adhere to a moral code that goes back thousands of years that is not alterable for the likes of George W. Bush or Barack Obama and their political whims.

For me I am completely "Cured" of organized religion of every stripe. HOWEVER what I find amazing is my faith grows stronger each day.

Sparrow, NO offense intended towards you, or the many millions of peaceful members of your denomination who are not Evangelical(which you mentioned that you are not )

But the fact remains that radical Evangelicals (think the few "nut jobs" still imprisoned in Haiti) go to dangerous lengths because they believe many times, that laws don't pertain to them. (Abortion DOCS in CHURCH who get killed ring a bell) or (The Manifest Destiny crowd maybe) ?

As for growth, I keep reading that christianity number are down, because the younger generations aren't "buying in" !

In a liberal fantasy world only perhaps, good luck to you. You need it.

For the record I am evangelical to the point where when I talk to some I don't know that well I'll say, "Have you ever thought of going to church? Many find comfort there" if they express unhappiness with their current situation.

I happen to think that the theories around evolution as equally amusing as the Bible story.

The belief that we evolved from the apes is a bit tough to swallow.. But I think any reasonable Christian would agree that the story of God creating Adam and Eve and a talking snake tricked them to be equally far fetched on the surface.

GOOD LUCK To YOU ! You need it, because your source(singular because I doubt that you have more than ONE source )...for news is failing to give you ALL the facts about current religous trends in the USA. (I'll give you a lil' hint,.....they're NOT refering to JEWS, whose number Never drop) !

Praise Jesus and give me the power of the lightning from Heaven to make these Liberals see the Power and Glory Forever!

"And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven." (Luke 10:18 RSV)

I do not believe that evolution says we evolved from apes. My understanding fro the reading I have done is that we have a common ancestor and that at one point there was a fork in the tree. Te evolution is similar to the split between some sea mammals and some land based mammals. Moat/some whales still have residual hind legs that are disappearing over generations due to the fact that they are no longer needed.

As far as I am concerned there are mountains of scientific proof and theory that support the idea of evolution. Evidence such as fossil records, skeletons, genetic mapping and much more.

The only support the bible has is it's self. I do not feel that relying on ones self as proof is proof. If I say I can fly because I say I can fly, that does not make it true.

Sparrow,

If I may say so, this (your) latest reply is your best Ever !

I too (believe it or not) also have had the exact same thought/doubt (on both sides of the coin) as yourself.

The Only thing (and its a very powerful thing) that keeps me from being a staunch evolutionist is the very very old belief that the Indians are correct as far as creationism is concerned.

(and) as I'm sure you know, the bible has "zero" to do with their beliefs, which to me just adds to the mystery.
