ATA Airlines plans to quit flying into Charlotte/Douglas International Airport in about three weeks, depriving the region of one of its two low-fare carriers.

Charlotte Aviation Director Jerry Orr told the Observer on Sunday that ATA's Charlotte station manager informed him last week that the airline would end its Charlotte flights the first week of January. The airline could not be reached late Sunday.
