Flight 38 from Beijing has crash landed at London's Heathrow airport. The aircraft in question is G-YMMM, a Boeing 777-200ER built in 2001.

The plane that landed short was a British Airways flight BA38 from Beijing to London, British Airways said. The Boeing 777 made an emergency landing and all passengers were evacuated, airport operator BAA PLC. Fire trucks surrounded the aircraft and emergency evacuation chutes were deployed.

Three passengers had minor injuries, London Ambulance Service said.

The Boeing appeared to have landed just yards from a busy perimeter road, Britain's Press Association reported. The impact wrecked the undercarriage and caused extensive damage to both wings, it said.

An international passenger plane has crash landed short of the south runway at Heathrow Airport after losing its rear undercarriage.

All 136 passengers and 16 crew escaped from the British Airways flight BA038 from Beijing. Six people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

An airport worker told the BBC that the pilot said he had lost all power and had to glide the plane into land.

All BA short haul flights from Heathrow have been cancelled and others delayed.

The BBC's Angus Crawford said the worker, who was not identified, said the pilot told him all the electronics had also failed.

Certainly appears to be a write-off of the airframe, making this the second 777 to be parted out - the first being an ex-BA/Varig frame being parted out in Lake Charles, LA.
