TODAY'S ANNOUNCEMENT

This morning US Airways announced plans to change the way the
Company does business. Unfortunately the change will be painful
for US Airways employees.

The Company has decided in today's economic environment, it must
retrench, and deploy assets into the core of the system.
According to the Company, the core is the four major hubs - PHL,
CLT, DCA and PHX. The Company believes the airline is once again
a hub and spoke airline and will redirect efforts to maximize
revenue based on a hub and spoke model.

As a result of the new Company plan, the BOS, LGA, and LAS crew
domiciles will close in 2010. According to the Company, those
domiciles have a cost factor and operational deficiencies that
mandate their closure. As a result, Flight Attendant and Pilots
will be uprooted from their homes and working domiciles.

Obviously, domicile closures result in tremendous hardships for
our members in all domiciles. The AFA will work strenuously to
mitigate the effects associated with the new Company plan.

In accordance with contractual and Transition Agreement
provisions, the AFA was provided with financial details to
justify the domicile closures. In order to justify the domicile
closures AFA economic analysts will review the Company's data
line by line- dollar for dollar. If the analysis leads the AFA
to believe otherwise we will take all the steps necessary to
prevent the domicile closures.

The Company plan will result in a loss of almost 1000 jobs
system wide. The job losses include a reduction of 130 East
Flight Attendants and 20 West Flight Attendants. With respect to
Flight Attendants, the Company intends to follow both Collective
Bargaining Agreements provisions regarding a "reduction in
force". Those provisions do not start with an involuntary
furlough. The contractual provisions outline a Voluntary
Furlough and Voluntary Separation prior to an Involuntary
Furlough. In addition, the Union will insist on a buy-out option
for Flight Attendants. More details will follow regarding
potential furlough programs.

In summary, the Company's new plan includes the following:

-- Closure of the LGA and LAS domiciles effective 1/31/2010
-- Closure of the BOS domicile effective 5/2/2010
-- Reduction in BOS Caribbean flying effective with the domicile
closure
-- Reduction of Transatlantic operations from the PHL domicile-
the elimination of service to Milan, Stockholm and Shannon. The
Company had previously announced the elimination of service from
PHL to Birmingham and London Gatwick
-- Convert PHL-LRH from 757 to A330-200 equipment
-- Convert ZRH and BRU service from seasonal to year round
service
-- Continue to operate the US Airways Shuttle
-- Maintain the remaining E-190 fleet to support off-peak
Shuttle flying and additional LGA and BOS service to other non
shuttle destinations
-- Return the China route authority to the government

The Company's plan will lead to displacements and base
realignments. The Company informed the Union of potential
changes, however specific numbers are not available at this
time.

The AFA remains committed to providing a viable workplace for
our members and as such will scrutinize all of the Company's
decisions in the finest detail.

Thank you,

Mike Flores, President
The US Airways Master Executive Council
AFA-CWA

Unfortunately, the changes we are sharing with you today will impact a large number of our fellow employees. While we are still finalizing the details of our 2010 schedule and fleet plan, our initial forecast is that as many as 1,000 positions across the system will be eliminated in the first half of 2010 as these schedule changes are implemented. These reductions include approximately 600 airport passenger and ramp service employees; approximately 200 pilots (that breaks down to an estimated 165 pre-merger US Airways and 35 pre-merger America West pilots) and approximately 150 flight attendants (again, estimating 130 pre-merger US Airways and 20 pre-merger America West flight attendants.) As we work through these changes, we’ll do all we can to minimize the impact of these reductions on our current employees

It's the only thing we could come up with that would secure my bonus.....you didn't expect me to run an airline did you?

Thanks,

Doug

Sorry about Base closings but we must accept the fact you were living on tttttoooooomuch loss flight time. I guess pack your bags and get to work.

HO HO HO! Happy Holidays from Doug P. Once again this company needs to grow a pair and learn how to compete. This company needs to treat us as an asset not a liability. I'm sure the operation will be running real smooth and all of us will be going above and beyond after today. Doug, enjoy your holiday bonus on our backs.

Honey do not feel bad it has been this way for a long time. Do not blame doug, once again your message is for the employee group. How do we take our jobs back is another story . Get involved careers can get better. The Company has to take care of business there will always be hero's and casualty's.

It's nice to see Zurich and Brussels go full year around on bigger equipment however...since when has DCA been a Hub? Oh that's right...after the slots transaction...

If you don't like the gloomy news then quit and find a REAL job...

my condolences to those who lose their jobs but hey...us kettles want $25 Transcon Fares...you have no one to blame but yourselves for driving the high yield revenue customers away.

Sorry for all affected, I'm a ramper, and we are losing 600 ramp and customer service, funny, the headline for the press release said, Strengthening our core network. Laying anyone off strenghtens he company????? AMAZING. I make 24,000-26,000 dollars a year, so if I got laid off, it will hurt but in the end it will all be for the best, I can get any job outside of the airlines and get treated better than this. So if any of you are affected, trust me, in the end, it will work out better for you, there is no future in this or any airline. My only icentive to work hard is only not to screw my co-workers, so I will work hard for them. But good luck to all who is affected by this!

Harsh! Did you eat a small child for breakfast?

Just remember these "surprise" base closures. The next time someone says, "no that won't happen because Doug said" I'll be sure to bring it up. I just knew it was a matter of time.

Harsh! Did you eat a small child for breakfast?

I'm just tired of the pissing and moaning...Sadly to an MBA Executive looking at Excels...closing LGA/BOS/LAS as a Crew Base makes sense for the company financially...it doesn't do well for employee morale at all and this will trim down the company significantly.

Oh and I stayed at Holiday Inn last night so I'm a frump.
