From the Associated Press:

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - A Santa Cruz man won a suit against American Airlines alleging that one of the company's planes released two chunks of toilet waste, known euphemistically as blue ice, onto the skylight of his boat.

After the chunks came crashing down and damaged his boat, Ray Erickson tracked down the plane — American Airlines Flight 1950 — and sued in small claims court.

He received the court's ruling in the mail Friday. A judge ordered the airline to pay him $3,236 - almost the entire amount Erickson had sought.

Mike Fergus, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration (news - web sites), was surprised at the decision.

I'll be darned, said Fergus, who hadn't heard of any similar suits succeeding before.

The airline has 30 days to appeal the ruling. Airline officials could not be reached to comment Saturday.

This just proves that even if you don't live near a military target, you can still be hit by an Icy B.M.

Blue ice is kind of a funny concept, but it is a very serious problem. Blue ice has been known to fly off and become lodged in engines and do very serious damage to engine blades. This has happened on both the B727 and MD80.

Yea like that one that landed in the desert. I think the impact with the ground did more damage than the ice.

Assume you refer to the engine, not the aircraft
IIRC the incident in question happened on a 727 flying DFW-SAN sometime back in the ''80s. Aircraft continued on to destination minus (literally) one engine.

Not only can it cause serious damage to the aircraft, but any structure it hits could suffer serious and costly damage. Furthermore, if it melts at all before being removed, you could have a bit of a biohazard problem... raw sewage is not a good thing to have sitting around your house or boat, in this case...
