I was wondering how the conversions were proceeding. I'm on a 757 to LAS Thursday and I was wondering if it was going to F24 or F8. MarkMyWords (I think) posted a prediction that about 11 of the fleet would be done by now. Flyertalk has a pretty discouraging story about a screwed up situation at the gate of a revamped 757 and I wondered what the odds were at this time.

Also, when would you expect the conversion to be complete?

Thanks!

Checked the numbers as of today and it was only showing 9 converted to 8/185. Not sure how this will be on the LAS flight though since the routings arent in the computer that far in advance, but the majority are still 24 seaters for now.

you refering to selling 24 F seats and only having 8?
heard tales of that last nite.....
track plan shows the conversion to be done i think by the end of FEB.last i heard they were going very well.the planes are in for 2 days each.

A/C 604 and 607 are done...i was on both last night....A/C 626 is not converted....thats all i know!

As far as I know all 757's have been blocked to 8f 158y just so u doesn't sell 24f and have an a/c with only 8f. Approx 10 a/c have been modified to 8f 185y and so far they have all been ex eal a/c so if a/c 600 thru 609 pulls up to the gate it has been modified to 8 f. After 2nd week in Feb all a/c will be modified, and the track is running smooth.

VJ,

Thanks for the update....Thankfully this program is running smooth with the exception of a glitch here or an in-bound write-up there...and still you guys are getting it done. I guess some good leadership and the tireless support mechanism is doing it's job? (LOL)

If the change on checks in LAX going from 757's to A321's on the overnight goes half a smooth as this ?...we'll be doing well , yet knowing how poorly we are set for A321 parts in general , I'm sure LAX is going to present a challenge that the 757's never did for them.

The first Airbus 321 "C" Check started on Sunday night and went smooth as silk.I have enjoyed working on the Boeing 757's since they were put on line in the early nineties, but to see a/c 600 for a "B" check was no fun.The Airbus will be more labor intense but they are fairly new and this will help quite a bit on an eight hour check.I do think we got the better end of the deal. Just another thought on the subject, we have been doing the Airbus "A" check for the last eighteen months or so.This has given the hangar crew a lot of experience on the a/c .

617P,

Nobody gets excited about working N600AU for any reason...not even CLT (LOL)
The joke is ..when it goes transcon to SEA and breaks...we claim it's gone home to die (LOL) 😉

I'm well aware of what LAX does...and did do. I have the hours on the phone with a certain person with a former presidents name to proove it. My concern is where we are at in logistical terms with the 321 checks.

We have worked hard trying to get LAX stocked in a manner to make the B757 Checks go has smooth as possible....hard to do with select few Ex-EAL pigs too !!...but knowing how often the A321 spare engine alone has been robbed in LAX....I know without fail where time and fate will be leading us....and considering that the 321 has No US dancing partner for those certain somethings that are unique to the 321's only...it can get tough even at a stocking stations the size of CLT , PIT or PHL.

I have always been a drum beater to insure that LAX got a portion of what the other 3 big cities in the east have...but sometimes the best of reasons , arguements and intentions cannot be pounded into heads of stone. I hope we do have the greatest of luck with the 321 checks there....but you guys know the number when the luck glass runs empty 😀

Flew PHL-CLT early this morning, and the 757 was not yet converted. Are they doing any other cabin work with the seat changes? That 757 was pretty well worn inside.

On another note, hats off to LAX as usual. In and out early on a full travel weekend.

I just wish the company would have informed the passenger that purchased a two hundred dollar round trip and cashed in the mileage to upgreade into first back in feb that we might be going into a reconfiguration of aircraft......passenger took thirty minutes to scream about not being able to be in first and wanted to be put in hotel until I could promise he would be in first......wanted pax that were the lucky ones that had paid for first put back in coach, because as he stated to me I am a Doctor and I go before anyone.........Made sure that I called him doctor so and so instead of Mr.

The Current plan is to modify all of the overwater capable 757's first. Track in PIT is running smooth averaging less than 2 days a conversion. Only major problem so far has been the quality of the seat audio inbound to the Mod Track. So far we have encountered numerous problems with the in-seat audio. As always material shortages are a major headache and lack of training has not helped.

Only two Eastern aircraft remain to be modified, 600 and I think 601. 605 was completed last night along with activation of the Auto-Tilt function of the PWS system.

Rumor has it the next fleet to be modified will be the A319 moving down from 12 seats in first to 8.

You guys better be careful about ripping out too many FC seats on the domestic fleet. If the domestic Airbus's start to look too much like the inside of a Southwest 737, you guys are in BIG trouble. 🙁

They do that, and they will find a large segment of their elite VFF population on UA. Same small number of F seats, but E+ to make the coach experience more desireable.

I don't have a hard time believing this--it's classic BBB--"here are unlimited elite upgrades--now we are going to shrink all the F cabins."
