This may be off topic, but I need some help regarding cell coverage in CLT from folks that are in that area with real-world experience of the coverage (I haven't been there for a few years).

I will be returning to active status shortly. While my east base assignment is yet to be determined, I was considering changing my cell phone plan and/or company. I have T-mobile currently, but when I check the coverage map, it shows only "T-mobile roaming" for CLT. Does anyone use T-mobile in CLT? If so, what is the coverage like? Are there any problems with free mobile-to-mobile when in CLT?

Thanks in advance.

Tmobile is not big here in NC... so be careful
ATT is big.... so are others... but not TMOBILE

I have friends there with NEXTEL.Company plan isnt bad either.I have it up north and we connect fine.good plan for under 60.00 bux's

I've had pretty decent coverage with "Cingular", ATT in the CLT area, but there are areas of sparse coverage that are unpredictable if one goes out into "the sticks", even on major highways at times.

Was there (CLT) the other day with a guy with TMobile. He must of had 10 dropped calls in the first hour we were there. He ended up using my phone (Verizon) without a problem. We spent the night and he said he had to use his phone card/land line from the hotel to call home. Doesn't look like TMob is the plan for there. Good luck.

I use Verizon wireless. Excellent coverage here and nationwide. They have a lot of good plans.
It's a rarity for me to drop a call.

Same here. I have had Verizon for years and have had no problems. They also have excellent customer service.

Yeah ATT sucks. I had way too many dropped calls and failure to receive calls on the north part of town. Couldn't even use them for my contact number. Have Verizon now and am happy with it.

I have t-mobile and have no problem in the airport, training center, or overnight areas. Other then that I cannot say.

I forget the name of the roaming company, but no additional charges for using your phone. The only issue you would have is calling your voicemail from a roaming carrier you get your voicemail message and you have to enter into your voicemail to retrieve messages by hitting pound or star (forget which one) then enter your password. You cannot dial directly to your voicemail.

ATT sucks worse than the new USAirways...............well, okay, maybe not that bad!

VERIZON is the way to go on the East Coast!

Verizon is the ONLY way to go. My whole family have it & never drop calls.

Ditto on Verizon. Great National plan and you can get a Usairways discount on top of it. Think mine is 19%. US Cellular wasn't bad, just had too many dropped / missed calls in the PHL, LGA areas. Reason for the switch. Welcome back BTW.

Sorry for posting in the wrong section. I just went straight to my airline's board since I knew many were in the CLT area.

Well when I head up for training, I'll see what T-mobile is like for myself in CLT. If no good, I'll have to look into another company and bite the bullet on the $200 get-out-of-contract penalty. I didn't realize I could get a discount with Verizon. I'll have to look into that.

Thanks everyone for the quick and honest input.

I just flew with a flight attendant whose husband does all the programming for the towers in NC. He works mainly with verizon and cingular. Her phone always worked and she has verizon. My t-mobile had horrible coverage on our layover. From what she told me, verizon is the best, cingular is number 2.
