US Airways CEO sentenced to one day in jail for drunk driving
The Associated Press

PHOENIX: The CEO of US Airways will spend one day in jail for his drunken driving arrest shortly after his airline's $9.8 billion (€7.5 billion) bid for Delta Air Lines was rejected.

Doug Parker, 45, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one DUI charge. Prosecutors asked that a second DUI charge and a speeding charge be dismissed.

Parker will spend 24 hours in jail on March 15. The judge also fined Parker $1,646.25 (€1,252) and ordered him to be screened by a doctor to determine if he has a problem with alcohol addiction.

Parker was pulled over Jan. 31 after leaving a party.

US Airways acknowledged the sentence in a statement to employees Tuesday: "Doug knows he made a serious mistake and has apologized for his actions. He plans to adhere to all of the court-directed repercussions and restitutions that come about from this charge."

It is not a dead horse, it is reality and even the Judge realizes Doogie has a problem by ordering him to undergo an exam.

His fourth DUI and he gets one day in jail and a very affordable fine. Amazing.

I can't believe he got off with such a slap on the wrist.

Looks like two-tier justice still exists in the United States.

Count your lucky stars, DoUgIe. Looks like the judge cut you a huge break.

It IS a dead horse cause it is NOT aviation news worthy and nobody gives a good flying f#@$ except for those who have nothing better to do than sit on this website 24/7!

Get a life!!!

so... u mean to tell me that none of our employees have alcohol or drug problems? if doug needs an exam, i suggest that every employee needs one too.

Lets see he is the CEO, got popped for DUI after representing US Airways at the FBR.

Very relevant.

The "screening" by the doctor is fairly major. I'm not certain how it is managed in Arizona, but here is the protocol in most states.

The person doing the screening will be determined by the judge, has previously been approved by the state and, in some states, only does addiction exams and management. S/he is an MD whose opinion is expressly considered by the court and the defense may not submit their own expert or opinion.

If the examiner determines that the patient has dependency issues, there will be inpatient therapy, with outpatient follow-up. Random urine samples will be provided almost daily at the beginning and then weekly into the fifth year. Most of these "contracts" are for five years. Evidence of inappropriate substances, including alcohol in the case, or failure to submit a sample on the day requested, would result in return to inpatient management and re-hearing by the judge. There are locations to do the urine drops in all 50 states, so travel will not be an excuse.

Mr. Parker is on a very short leash. Even if the exam reveals no dependency issues, he'll be on the front page of the paper every time he has a drink in his hand in public.
