From FlyerTalk:

The FAA re-authorization bill submitted by Rep. Shuster which would spin off the ATC to a non-profit, fee-supported corporation. It also contains a provision that would reduce/eliminate a 2012 restriction on ticket price advertising which required the airlines to upfront give the true final cost for a ticket--including taxes and fees. An airline would be allowed once again to advertise ticket prices that did not include taxes and fees. According to some travel organizations, taxes and fees can amount to 20% of the total ticket cost.

Is this a good idea, or is this a way to hide the true cost of a "non-profit ATC"? The implication of the ATC fee-based spinoff is that each ticket sold would have a fee included to pay for the ATC's services. I suspect that the final fees and taxes amount will end up being even more than 20%. Looks like we may be headed for the "good ole days" when airlines advertised $65 tickets New York-London, but the cheapest actual ticket cost $750.
