Continental To Be Us Launch For 7e7

Good news. Hopefully, this aircraft will live up to the hype - comfort, range, economy, ect. If it does, it's great news for Boeing and a good move for CO. It wouldn't surprise me to see two or three other US carriers follow suit in the near future - particularly AA and NW as it would seem to fit their route systems nicely.

I love the picture on the Boeing website of the CO B7e7. It looks smooth. I can see CO eventually operating a fleet of about 25 B7e7 about 10 years down the road. I think this plane holds a lot of promise. It will allow CO to open up quite a few new routes. GO CO!

I think this is yet another bold step in Gordo's vision of CAL. It is his last legacy. And a fine one it is. Even when the chips are down he is bold. 7E7 are great for any international operation CAL has. I hope they will have GE engines with orders from AA to follow.

I'm not at all surprised that CO is the launch customer among US legacy carriers for the 7E7. I am surprised at how gutsy CO is by taking on additional conventional (non 7E7) aircraft. While CO and other carriers have worked for several years to defer deliveries, CO is alone in accelerating deliveries of aircraft while the legacy industry is still very vulnerable financial. While CO has a strong history of turning lemons into lemonade, the increased leverage these commitments represent will strain CO at a time when its turnaround is not at all certain. That increased leverage could be pivotal if the industry hits another crisis. Other carriers could have significantly more financial depth and thus be capable of playing a role in determining CO's future.

The "new" aircraft CAL is taking are 8 757-300 ATA used to operate. If you were the leasing firm would you want ATA or credit worthy CAL( all things being relative in the airline business)? CAL probably got a steal since few people want 757-300 with Rolls engines. I think it was a smart move on Gordo's vision. ATA was paying through the nose for those 757's when they bought them at the height of the market in 1999 as part of a larger order from Boeing for 757 and 737.

Thank the Continental employees for these new planes, because they are paying for them with  pay-cuts.

Yes, and the employees should in turn thank management for opening up new flying opportunities at the least possible cost...

From what I've read, Continental is leasing these AC from Boeing. They were aircraft that ATA was going to get but now won't. They put them into service to generate revenue. Some of that revenue pays the lease. How does that lease translate into money from the employees?

The company has told us that these new airplanes are contingent on CAL employees agreeing to wage and benefit reductions by Feb 28th.So on the one hand they want money from us while at the same time are dangling this carrot in front of us in the name of expansion. Not many here in EWR falling for that one. Houston is another story.

The company has told us that the pay cuts are needed for the company to survive, than they go and order new planes..They wined about rising fuel prices yet they never said anything when they went dowm...The employees are getting screwed.

Join the club. Hey dude, this isn't the first time you paid for CAL improvements. Remember the new paint job and upgrades years ago? That came at a price but helped to make you guys successful. Take a hard look at all of us at US Airways and then cry me a river. B)

When oil went down, they came up with a good excuse why they still want the cuts. They call it "crackspread".That means the cost of processing the stuff is still high(so they say). When i used crackspread during scrabble, i was immediately labeled a pervert!
