Any thoughts on the cost of living in the Miami area rentals and such

Compared to where? Certainly lower than NYC and Florida has no state income tax. Housing prices have rebounded considerably in the past year but still down from their 2006/2007 highs.

According to Miami Realtors Association condo prices are up 28% from last year. Miami Herald

Mar. 2012 cost of living index in Miami: 115.2 (more than average, U.S. average is 100)

If your coming from TX, or Okie-homa, you'll be fine in Florida.
Tons of red-necks there, unlike Ord or JFK !
(Then again, if you went to JFK you'd Eat like a KING) (They have REAL ' I " - talian food/Pizza there !!!!!!!!!!

in a decent area shorecreast, Miami shores, Biscayne park will run you 200-250 for a home. You could try FLL, but then you have the daily drive. Renting is possible but finding a decent building building can be hard. In Miami but again FLL maybe more reasonable. most other things are in line with other cities electric, food and water.

Do you speak Spanish?

Ive heard that in MIA certain gates are only staffed by Spanish speaking, also break rooms.

Stay out of NYC, your pay will be cut in half with rent, food. How does $1400. a month for a one-bedroom sound to you? Thats not in the best of neighborhoods either. Maybe you can bunk in one of those pilot / FA crash pads. Good luck..

Cant beat the winters in MIA
MIA is approximately 10 percent cheaper than New York
My taxes were 5K My Homeowners was 3K and my association fees were 1600
no state tax on your paycheck two cars full coverage runs about 180 a month. The school system sucks if you have kids. And brush up on your Spanglish or just ignore it and after about five years you dont even realize it anymore. The guys in MIA are great most X-NYers. Christmas was a little wierd but it sure was great barbqueing everyday in February. It took me about eight uears to get use to it down there. Good Luck to all
