Dave To Speak

Thanks Dea,

They have a webcast of their last event available - hopefully they'll have one of Siegel's speech also.

Just go to the website at the bottom of the article Dea posted and in the lower left corner is a box of the most recent event. Clicking on that takes you to the webcast - available in Real & Windows Media - at least for Janurary's event.

Siegel talking about leadership? That's gonna be a very, very short talk.

Herb, Bethune, Joe Leonard, Neeleman would make sense. A guy who came to a bankrupt airline, ran it thru bankruptcy (failing to adequately cost out) and having it fall down upon emergence?

Generally, the signs of good leadership are shareholder value increasing, a happy and dedicated labor force, a model operation, or all three. Siegel has shown no acumen at any of these things.

Perhaps they meant to have "Dave talking about leadership" as the opening act for Carrot Top at the Improv, and this is merely a typo....

Well, this is how these business types in the Potomac Officers Club describe themselves:

"The Potomac Officers Club is a non-profit membership organization of seasoned, CXO-level professionals with successful track records of developing high-tech businesses in the Greater Washington area. The members meet once per month to network, foster business growth, and share business ideas and investment opportunities."

Yeah, well saying it doesn't make it so.

There are so many methods of leadership. I thought that Siegel did demonstrate some traits of leadership early in his tenure. The value of his techniques were repeated on these Boards. However, multiple errors in judgement of both a personnel and financial nature has greatly diminished that excellent start.

Can high quality leadership be created by the current administration? Possibly, but it requires an openness and honesty that appears to be missing. The lack of communication that would re-create an energized workforce must be part of any "Plan" in order for it to be successful. The big question is whether the damage caused by past acts is irreversible.

People have spoken about dealing with all the "number crunchers" in management. Well, Jack Welch was the icon of number crunchers and created an incredibly motivated workforce. It can be done, but requires significant effort by top management.

Leadership in the airline industry by Dave Siegel? As someone said earlier, "A very short talk". But there is always value in seeing a negative example.

Just one man's opinion.
