Can someone let me know how much longer NWA will be using 10s from SFO to NRT? And other destinations too. I read the new PDX svc will go A330 in the fall so what about SFO? If UAL goes all 777s can SFO support a NW 744
From what I've been hearing, SFO will get the A330 before PDX. I know that since we downgraded this flight fom a 747, SFO has had problems with weight restrictions on the DC-10. Hopefully, going to the A330, will mean being able to get more freight moving across the Pacific.
As far as intra-asian markets, I think they will be there for awhile (either until demand warrants either going up to a 330, or 747, or down to a 757).
FWIW, I believe the key to success in the PDX-NRT market will be tied to freight volume.
Speaking of Pacific runs, they are going to try LAX-HNL with a 757-300 here in the near future.
NW should be ashamed of itself to fly such a relic to tokyo. If this was 1978 then it would be the right airplane, but what happened to the 747-200 that flew SFO-NRT for years? Northwest seems like Northwrong to me. NW needs a smaller then 747 aircraft for its pacific routes, 777-200ER and LR's are the way to go.
