ATLANTA (AP) -- Delta Air Lines' boss Leo F. Mullin will step down as chief executive on Jan. 1 and leave as chairman after the company's annual shareholders' meeting in late April.

Wow, is there something wrong with these boards!? No speculation on this?

So, Delta is replacing 60 year old Mullin with a 65 and 71 year old, permanently? Could the next CEO by Bethune?

Fred Reid. Grinstein will stick around a couple of years, then Reid will move up to CEO.

That's right. I was wondering why the article didn't mention Reid by name.

Carty, would fit right into Delta's mold. After all he is anti-union himself.
You should not project your personal issues over here. There is more to Delta than union/anti-union or Holiday Sick Outs.

My guess is Grinstein will oversee ALPA concessions and then pass control to Reid. Because Grinstein has been around for a while, he may be perceived by employees as "old guard" and his leadership may help improve employee morale and thus facilitate an agreement with ALPA.

The couple of times that I met Leo, I was impressed. While there have been some problems under his watch, I will not be happy to see him go.

ah

So the BOD offers up Leo as a scapegoat for their Exec retention bonus/Retirement fiasco so the pilots will give the wage cuts needed for the merger with CO. Mark my words, with all this debt they will say that is the only hope. Merge or go under. Grinstien has been after this merger for years. He hired Leo to do it. Now Leo has lost the employee's confidence (due to the actions of the BOD), so he must go.

Tighten your seat belts, we are in for a wild ride a head.

I disagree with you. DAL is very deep in debt. I don't see anyone wanting to merge with DAL only to take on all that debt. Anyone who merges with DAL also takes on the 1bil debt payments in 05 and 06. Also, if a merger was planned with CAL, why worry about pilot pay cuts? You could merge under the CAL name and impose the CAL contract.

If DAL goes CH 11 and wipes restructures, then I see a merger. And this is always a possibility. But, short of that, the amount of debt on DALs books make them a very unattractive merger partner.

I don't think Reid is the sucessor...based on statements made today, Grinstein plans to be more involved in day-to-day issues (Reid's current job). I think the result is Reid leaving in the next year or so clearing the way for a new leader all together...

OK, everybody now:

"Clearing the way for a new leader!"

Sorry, couldn't resist the old "Airplane" gag... 😀

DL(Alpa),
Don't give back "1" red cent.

Make all the money you can, NOW. !!!!!!!!!!!

If DL goes "11", or "if" Alpa (caves in down the road),(which I doubt) either way, those corperate "pick pockets" will put your annual earnings, on the "slim fast plan"

So "make hay while the sun $$$$$$$$$$ shines"

LEO leaving is BIG news.

I'd hate like hell to be working at DL now(and in the near future), WITHOUT a union contract in place, to protect my seniority rights.

Like some one posted above,
"buckle your seat belts, there's FUN times ahead"

Thank you NHBB! I heard through the grapevine that Mullin received a $60 million dollar buyout. You have to wonder why he really decided to bailout of Delta. Something tells me that DL may be in deeper then you actually think.

aislehopper, no need be rude. I didn't see your name on the owners manual for this BB. 😀

You and I have debated before, and you should remember that I have never been a proponant of censorship for ideas. I was not even for banning that nutcase wrx. As long as he could remain civil, I thought that he should be allowed to make his poison posts. One point where you are most correct. Anyone is allowed to post without my permission. It is not my board. I do not pay the bills and my participation here is at the pleasure of the moderators and owners - just like on Holly's board..

However, as my post stated, by PROJECTING his own personal issues with AA's industrial relations, he is missing the point. Just as with life, there is more to Delta than union/anti-union. By focusing in on one small part, he misses the big picture -which is we have new leadership.
