The Delta Air Lines Foundation, a company-managed giving system that is a separate entity from Delta Air Lines, will honor the late Coretta Scott King and her work in promoting peace and social justice by providing college scholarships through the Coretta Scott King/Delta Air Lines Scholarship at her alma mater, Antioch College, in Yellow Springs, Ohio.

The widow of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lent her support to democracy movements worldwide and served as a consultant on nonviolence to many world leaders. She was responsible for developing the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta after his death in 1968. She also led the charge to establish a national holiday on his birthday, Jan. 15.

“We are honored to partner with Antioch College in continuing Mrs. King’s legacy,â€￾ said Lee Macenczak, executive vice president and chief of customer service. “This scholarship fund will provide students at Antioch a valuable opportunity to further their academic goals and fulfill their dreams while continuing the important work started by Mrs. King.â€￾

To the tune of 10 grand for the next 5 years to benefit THE CORETTA SCOTT KING FOUNDATION, meanwhile we are losing over 11 MILLION DOLLARS A DAY. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?

You need to choose better battles. 10k per year is equal to $27 per day or only 0.00025% of the 11M you mention. Hardly an issue of relevance. I applaud DL for taking a very modest (our wage cuts don't even make up any measurable amount of $27/day) action to show its continued support for the community and ethical standards. I applaud that DL spends on a decent foundation rather than spending 10's of millions a year on lobbyists (AA).

This is from the Delta Air Lines Foundation - which is a separate entity from the airline. I would imagine this this foundation is a non-profit with a separate balance sheet from the airline itself. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's see...How long has Mrs. King been marching with Martin BEFORE DL ever gave any money? How long has it been since MLK has been shot, and never received a penny from DL. I wonder...why would this woman want to accept any money from an industry that treats it employees probably as "oppressively" as the black people in the civil rights movement? DL is now playing politics, and it's with the money earned by the sweat of its employees. The employees are always the ones to suffer. Nwa, United, there's a long line of extensive suffering. I am very sad to see this article. Of course, someone else will reap the rewards of some hard-working employee that deserved it so much more. The aviation industry is in total disgrace.

FOUNDATION is the key operative word. Most companies have one and they are separate from the airline and are living off of the profits of the past.

Even bankrupt companies can't throw the future away by refusing to assume civic responsibilities. It would be unforgiveable for DL to refuse to acknowledge Mrs. King's passing when the two have both called ATL home for decades.

Yes...as WT points out...FOUNDATION. This is not DL money...it is money raised by the foundation and much of it is VOLUNTARY contributions from employees. NONE of it includes INVOLUNTARY contributions.

Now...where did you get that DL has never donated to the cause in the past? Did you just draw that line to weave a tale to rant with? Think so. It would be pretty difficult to go through to see where an entity DID NOT give to a cause. Go do the real research instead of making ASSumptions to create a FOXNews story. Giraldo couldn't have done it better.

Oh...and it's pretty difficult to give to a foundation when, word for word from the article,
the newly established Coretta Scott King Center for Cultural & Intellectual Freedom,
is the case.

You're disgusting to try to equate union and corporate greed to racial inequities...especially of the magnitude of the inequities this country has had in the past.   Thanks for making it to my ignore list.
