As I recall he is not a LDS member. At the time that the merger was announced I remember an article about him in the paper that was discussing him in connection with his church and charitable giving, etc. Basically a fluff piece.
 
If I'm not mistaken, Doug is an active member of the Methodist Church

I think I read that same article: USA Today, Nov. 16, 2006.
