Delta: King of the world?

Is this the same King that left DFW with its head held low?

Mikey, in hindsight the closure of the DFW hub was probably the best thing DL could do under the circumstances at the time. Atlanta grew at the expense of DFW making it a megahub that is
virtually impenetrable due to lack of gate space.
AA has had its share of hub closures too... (i.e. SanJose, Raleigh, Nashville, and now the downsized and soon to be focus city St.Louis)

If ATL is in penetrable, explain Airtran.

HEHEHE - this is too funny, yes, I am so envious of DLs hubs in MEM, MSP, SLC, DTW... These are all secondary markets.. DLs only real stronghold is still Atlanta.

they are not considered secondary markets to the people who live in those geographical areas.

BTW

just an example of one hub..

DTW..

Oakland County..just right up the road from the DTW hub is the fourth wealthiest county in the United States of America.. and offers one of the most efficient and technological advanced terminals today..in combination with the newly opened North Terminal..and a viable market.

(in case you didnt know)

Detroit is in a continued revitalization process and what they have done to the downtown is really incredible..Ann Arbor has the University and there are a lot of people, potential customers.. who live and work in that area.. and you know people do not always want to have to fly to ATL to make a connection who live in the midwest.

the significance of all the hubs are important for the success of this merger.

A big thank you is in order to

DTW
MSP
SLC
MEM

and all the hubs and stations! for a job well done!

When you say the 4th wealthiest, does that in clude the atomobile industry?

Don't forget CVG, MEM, AMS & NRT.

I'd say each of the hubs from both sides brings value to the table in way or another.

its not just ATL...all the hubs bring value..however,

NYC is where they can be hugely successful..establishing a domestic hub and
further enhancing International services (taking into consideration market demand) there is just so much potential.

If DTW and MSP are secondary hubs, combined they have managed to give NW the dominant position in the midwest for many years; I might add that despite adding the STL hub, AA is the dominant carrier in very few midwest cities.

And in all honesty, AA has closed far more hubs than any other airline.

AA was always a two airline town but there is no room for any other carrier to grow. ATL is also considered to be the highest revenue generating hub in the US as well thanks to flights to 5 continents. In fact, DL has two 5 continent hubs - one at ATL and one at JFK. Me thinks DTW is not far from becoming a 5 continent hub as well. 🙂 That would be a rather KINGLY thing for DL to do.

I don't usually get into the "mine is better than yours' comparisons but I have been non-revving on AA a lot and I have to say, it makes me appreciate the things that Delta has done to improve our product over the past couple of years. AA's planes are very clean but everything just seems, well...dull, drab, cookie-cutter and very yesterday.. from the interiors to the FA uniforms to the tired corporate logos. Everything screams 1991 to me. The food items for sale don't have near the gourmet offerings of DL and they offer you NOTHING edible if you don't wish to purchase..meaning not even a bag of peanuts (whereas Delta now offers 3 complimentary items on flights over an hour). Not to mention no YC satellite TV. Most of the FAs are very nice and professional along with many of the gate agents except for a few crusty old male ticket agents that may want to run the numbers on retirment. If you're an employee there, I think you guys are great but you may want to drop something in your marketing and onboard services' "suggestion box". Just my .02

their planes are immaculate.

personally can over look a lot of the fluff (but the little things do matter), however when you go on board any plane and there is a banana peel on the floor, crushed peanuts in the carpets and a plastic cup in the seat back left over from the previous flight and god forbid its smelly..

any "grand service" and that impression to be made..to me, is just not going to happen.

its so important to have a clean enviroment.

They really are very professional on the job.
