Delta-Northwest: Unlikely to Fly

Any merger will face obstacles, DUH, just look at the train wreck that is USAirways
What I love the most about these types of articles is that the writers offer little or no suggestions as to how the airlines should
deal with the issues currently affecting the industry (i.e, high oil, ) If mergers aren't the answer, then what? file chapter 11? (been there done that) ,sit around and hope oil goes down to $50bbl? (unlikely) , shrink your way to profitability? (doesn't always work), oh yes...raise fares! (what a smart move! Already being done but for how long before people stop flying?)
Can these writers come up with some suggestions?

The article was mostly a puff piece that is better-suited for Ad Age or similar mag/website. The author spends 75% of his time discussing branding and image. The editor of BW should be held accountable also for the title of the piece...it is misleading but that's getting more typical in media today..anything for ratings/bucks.
