Has anyone else heard the same about how Delta has sold one maybe 2 hangers to UPS UNITED PARCEL SERVICE at DFW. From what I was told it is a done deal and UPS is just waiting for the lease to run DAL out, then UPS will start maintenance checks. I was told this from a manager at Big Brown. Anyone have anything else? Any more info out there?????

UPS has been long rumored to be interested in the ex-DL hangar at DFW. DL only had one hangar at DFW, not sure if UPS is thinking of adding on to it. I think the DFW Board has control of it now,Im thinking DL was leasing it from the airport. Currently the Global Peace 747-SP is parked in the hangar under going a "C" check if im not mistaken I know they were looking for volunteer AMT's to helpout with the check.

Why would UPS want that hangar?

AA/TWU could do that miantenance in Tulsa cheaper, faster, and better than anyone else, because they work together and have pajama parties and a break through goal, they collaboratively slash workers pay and benefits, they have vision 2025 money backing them, and they utilize continuous improvement to keep from re-calling laid-off workers.

Why buy a hangar?

Just let those of us in Tulsa do your maintenance! We will work faster for less! Just bring us more work.

 B)

Maybe because they have 10-15 aircraft on the ground during the day that could undergo something more than a PS or A check?...

AA is looking to insource base maintenance, not line maintenance.

Oh really? Thats not what they are telling us out on the line.

All I can say is if UPS does buy it it will be the best thing that could happen to the Delta guys should they get hired by UPS. They are the top paid AMTS. Iknow, I know, they are Teamsters, but one thing for sure, they are not TWU!

Well, actually they are pursuing line contract maintenance:

TO ALL M&E PERSONNEL

TWU/AA JOINT CONTRACT LINE MAINTENANCE TASK FORCE

A work group consisting of TWU Officers and American Airlines Management are
actively engaged in discussions to become an Aircraft Maintenance Provider for other carriers. From a Line Maintenance perspective, the work would range from on call gate operations, engine changes, troubleshooting and overnight checks all the way to the equivalent of “B” check level maintenance.
Our goal is to generate revenue to offset our costs without any negative impact on ourown operations, give our customers value, quality, reliability, provide employment stability for our employees, and financial success for our Company. This group will be meeting regularly over the next few months to establish Event Pricing Standards, Station Capabilities and Capacity, and Marketing Strategies. As we further develop our goals, we will be able to leverage, with the Base Maintenance and Component Maintenance, contract work groups and the services they provide to become a long-term single source maintenance provider.
We will be sharing more detailed information with you as we get closer to offering ourservices in the marketplace. We also ask for you to keep your ears and eyes open for opportunities where we can offer our services to carriers that may be dissatisfied with their current maintenance provider. It is exciting to be part of a non-traditional approach to Labor/Management relations and our entire group looks forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

For years, AA was reluctant to work other carriers' aircraft. At JFK, over the years, we have worked BWIA, SAA, GulfAir, Sabena and currently NCA.

The ONLY reason we did so was because those carriers had maintenance reps to RELEASE the aircraft.

AA never wanted the responsibility to sign off on others' aircraft.

Yet, when LOT POLISH sent their reps back to Warsaw, AA did not want to take over their maintenace, they had Delta mechanics come to our ramp, work the aircraft and sign off on it!

NOW, all of a sudden AMR sees $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in contract maintenance!

What a management team we've had and still do!

Yea, I'm sure that all the guys on the line are just going to be thrilled to get the "opportunity" to work even more for less.

If it doesnt generate OT, which they say it wont, their hearts will not be in it. Remember what Gordon Bethune said.

We are doing it in MIA all ready. On call for Delta. Yesterday we did strut seals on one of thier 767s 24 hours to change one strut seal. Dont know why it took 16 hrs longer than usual. Think we will do it again :D

We also did a B check for some foreign carrier cant remember the name. It was supposed to be a weekly thing but nothing else after the first one.
