Airlines agree to new EPA drinking water tests

One in eight planes do not meet federal health standards

WASHINGTON - New water quality inspections on airliners were initiated Tuesday by the Environmental Protection Agency in response to the discovery of coliform bacteria in the drinking water of one in every eight planes it tested.

I knew that when I had to clear a mel on the water Ind system long ago on a737, I swear when I looked in the tank there was something looking back at me

Not to mention, some airports' water supply is not up to snuff.

Know of one instance where the county tech ran the water for 15 minutes, and did NOT find a trace of chlorine.

Hate to think where the water came from.

Who drinks that water anyhow? Any water consumed is either bottled or boiled (coffee). Ice is also fresh.

That said, airplanes are breeding grounds for germs and should be held to the same standards as other workplaces. The way US keeps thier aircraft is deplorable, most of them even look dirty. I wonder how often the seat covers and galley equiptment is fully cleaned and santitized.
