BoeingBoy:

This article is no different than the four times Bronner previously spoke in the press about acquiring United assets or comments by people like Mike Boyd, Ray Niedl, William Lauer, Gary Chase, or Helane Becker that a merger or corporate transaction could occur between the business partners.

The interesting point is that the Dow Jones airline reporter is Susan Carey of the Wall Street Journal, who is very connected to CEO boardrooms and likely contributed to this report.

Nonetheless, the two companies are moving closer together with today's official announcement of US Airways Star alliance membership.

At this point the only thing clear is that everybody's future is uncertain at both companies.

Didn't we already discuss this exact same quote?

And "according to one industry source" could mean the cat that was lost in the cargo bin... Without names, its just speculation. If this source was B. Ben Baldanza or Doc Bronner, I would give it a lot more creditbility than if it was Joe, the ramper from Knoxville (no offense to Joe the ramper, just not sure how he would know such information). Sources often go unsited in the press when the source isn't very good.
