What is the going rate for a F-28-3000 or -4000?[BR][BR]I can''t imagine that its over $75,000 a month.[BR][BR]Wonder if an airline could cobble together 10 or 15 F-28-4000s, hire furloughed US pilots and FAs, pay them at the Express wage, and get a fee per departure arrangement from US.[BR][BR]Anybody have CASM figures for the F-28?

Itrade, I think 10 years ago there was a problem finding engine cores. I can't imagine the parts problem is any better now. I remember that Piedmont could breakeven with an average load of 22 passenger. U required a load factor of 102% to breakeven.

Fokker is still in business for it parts, are they not? [BR][BR][A href=http://www.fokkerservices.com/Overview/CompanyProfile/Comp0001.htm]http://www.fokkerservices.com/Overview/CompanyProfile/Comp0001.htm[/A][BR][BR]

Yes Boof, Fokker is still in business...just like BK'd U is. The problem with Fokker is twofold.

(1) Thier location in AMS (Amsterdam) does not provide timely support for US needs....and thier ATL Facility is no more than a Phone booth with a Fax machine...and it has only doctors office hours...which kicks you back to AMS.

(2) Thier Inventory is very very limited...only slightly worse than Airbus...if that's possible?

Itrade, Anything involving a Fokker product would quickly become a Cash-Cow. Fokker being bankrupt only makes things tougher.

AA still struggles with thier remaining 74...and the frequency of thier calls to us , makes that point clear to me. Mexicana is also another source of persistant calls for parts.

It's clear...when companies the size of AA and US ditch a product...it's certainly not because of it's value or ease of support. This would only be worse for a secondary carrier...note Horizons need for a quick replacement aircraft type.

Old joke from an off the wall movie (The Groove Tube) that will get past the censors...[BR][BR]A reporter was interviewing a German WWII pilot. The pilot says =[BR][BR]Vee vere flying into battle...There were Fokkers to my left and Fokkers to my right. [BR][BR]At this point, the reporter says For those who might not know, a Fokker is a German aircraft[BR][BR]To which the pilot says[BR][BR]Oh no...these Fokkers were in Messerschmidts.[BR][BR]

[P][/P]Right, but US's load factor and break-even was a function of US's high costs and inefficiencies.[BR][BR]I would be theorizing starting a feeder carrier from scratch with all the crews at RJ pay or slightly higher than RJ pay. Ground handling done by Express.[BR][BR]Maintenance would probably be the driver, but with lots of them laying around, you could probably cannibalize a couple of them.
