Embraer 170 yields improved fuel burn, higher payload

SAN PAOLO (ATWOnline.com) - Embraer announced increased efficiencies on its new 170 that yield a 2% better fuel burn rate than previously predicted.

The improvement was attributed to engine specific fuel consumption with manufacturing enhancements that reduced drag on the production aircraft.
Embraer has been able to confirm the final fuel burn numbers more accurately with the more than 40 170s in operation, and said it will revise related aircraft manuals to reflect the lower consumption rates. Operators could save an estimated $30,000 per aircraft per year based on 2,600 flight hr., according to the company. A fleet of 15 aircraft could produce savings of close to $5 million over a 20-year period on a present-value basis.

Embraer also increased payload capabilities of the 170 by adding the structural reinforcements of the 175, raising 170 payload by 750 lb. to 19,842 lb. The higher payload feature will become standard on all 170 products slated for delivery starting in early 2005.

The company has a total of 325 firm orders plus 383 options for its 170/190 line.

After the ALPA MEC roll called by a 4-8 margin to not send out the company's September 6 proposal, the company sent another proposal on September 10 that included out of seniority furloughs.

2% less fuel burn, 55% savings on mechanics and 70% savings on pilots!!! You are going to look good in the right seat of one of those......but look at the positive...at least you'll have a job :p

That will be the day of ultimate satisfaction for many here on the board..
Then he will be USA170Pilot!!!

Not exactly sure what this has to do with Embraer. Maybe a cut n paste typo or is Embraer laying off out of seniority due to US not getting the planes? :p

Heard some higher ups at Mid are being let go. Head of mtc and head of operations. Mid Atlantic will be more closely intergrated into mainline.

Please say Mini-Me is History! :D  :D

Most of the ill-will that has been generated at MDA has come from Ebola. If the operation is ever to survive and prosper then poorly educated throw-backs such as him need to go, and someone with real know how and the right attitude brought in.

I suspect that is right, and I suspect MAA will transmorgrify into what is currently 'mainline.'

planejane,

Who did you hear was let go? I heard this a few months back that it will be happening too. But, everything is just rumor in this industry until it actually happens. As far as MAA being intergrated with mainline..well, I always beleived that.

but the 170 does make up for the 2% when they either brak at the gate or make their all to famous 180 turns! we had have situations with that happening!!!!

File this under the column of:

"Great news that no normal person would take issue with, but the usual pathetic pity parade certainly will..."

You people are just plain sad. Bet you will be a joy to be around thiese Holidays.

Anyways,

Good to see an increase in payload, that extra bit will help on the long hauls, and only further increases one of the few competitive advantages we have over other legacy airlines right now.
