What's new

Enough is Enough

Sounds wonderful except oil and oil lubed items won't go away until the last drop is brewed.

I don't buy that excuse. Scientists here in the US and abroad are quite creative. I fond it hard to believe that alternatives have not already been discovered if not perfected.

I am not saying that it will occur over night or that there will not be bumps in the road but we were given a warning shot across the bow 30 years ago. Our greed, selfishness and ignorance has held us back. So many other nations have extensive public transportation to eliminate the need for cars in day to day travel needs. They have utilized diesel engines to reduce their oil needs, They have been using smaller cars. When I was in Europe a few weeks ago, I cannot even remember seeing a pick up truck much less a SUV on the roads.

Can you imagine what kind of impact there would be if 50% of the cars were electric and most homes had either a wind turbine or solar array on their roof tops? Can you imagine the reduction in pollutants and oil consumption? Can you imagine how scared the ME would be?

I don't buy that excuse.

So What? you've hardly the bounty of billions needed to do anything about it, nor will anyone's "poor" personal arrogance matter in the least bit. How about..instead of fleeing to Canada at the first shot fired..you tell us all how you'll actually DO anything about it? "Ya' say you want a revolution..well you know..we all want to see the plan"

"Reality!!""..Whatta' concept!!" Robin Williams again.

Our country has the money and resources to do what is needed to reduce the amount of oil we use, but it is the billions that the major oil companies in spending lobbying congress that keeps anything from being accomplished. Oh and also if we spent the money we are spending in Iraq everyday fighting thier civil war just think what we could do. We wouldnt be so dependant on the same countries that we are so called trying to free. It really is beyond me how there can still be so many people who think that the world owes us all the cheap oil we want. I agree with cosworth, there is so much waste in the US just because people want to drive a car or suv that is for show, not because they live on a farm and need to use it but just to drive from home to work. I think am kind of glad that oil is getting high enough to make us all think differently. Maybe we all will change the way we live now. It is a shame our government are not leaders instead of followers. If they were leaders they would have spent some of our tax money on public transportation, instead of war.

Cooper,

We are the government. The POTUS along with everyone else in government are civil servants. They are there to serve us. Until there are more people who are willing to make the sacrifices needed not much will change. Until the people start looking at the information that is available instead of accepting what is fed to them as the status quo nothing will change. Until we take our government back very little will change. As long as the government can find willing bodies to do it's fighting for it and who agree with it's mission, nothing will change.

EastUs,

I have already said what I would do about it. See post #13 and #31. The US has wasted well over $500,000,000,000.00 and are on our way to spending over $1,000,000,000,000.00 on getting oil out of Iraq. That money, properly invested could have made a huge down payment on our independence from oil. EastUs says he want to shut down the terrorists but he does not really seem to mean it. The most promising way to shut them down has been staring him in the face for 30 years. Unfortunately the likes of him would prefer to go about their merry way without any inconvenience. Never question the leaders of this damned ship.

You want to shut the terrorist down. Shut off their source of revenue. Who do you think is sponsoring them? Where do you think they are getting the money from? The countries in the ME who sponsor terrorism are using oil revenue. THaT MEANS WE HAVE BEEN SPONSORING THE TERRORISTS WHO HAVE BEEN ATTACKING US. Ironic isn't it?

The part I do not have an answer to is how wake the people up. How to get people to stop listening to idiots like you. How to get people to make sacrifices for the greater good.

EEStor

Keep an eye on this company. There isn't a lot of information about the company and they seem to be very secretive about the ultracapacitor technology they have developed. EEStor recently announced collaboration with Lockheed Martin, which gives the company credibility and is a further indication that the company is making progress. EEStor has signed a contract with Zenn Motor Company in Canada to supply ultracapacitors for Zenn's cityZenn electric car that will be on the market in 2009.

According to Zenn Motor Company, the cityZENN is planned to be a fully certified, highway capable vehicle with a top speed of 80 MPH and a range of 250 miles. Powered by the EEStor ultracapacitor, the cityZENN will be rechargeable in less than 5 minutes with $9 worth of electricity and is 100% emission-free.

EEStor ultracapacitor is claimed to have a specific energy of 280 watt-hours per kilogram, compared to a lithium ion battery with about 120 watt-hours and a lead-acid gel battery, with only 32 watt hours.

Why then is there so much friggin' apathy in 'our' government? How many don't participate anymore because they just don't care? Its over......they got us by the ballz and they know it...
Too many don't give a damn.

I agree that to many do not give a damn. Look at the debates and the press conferences, they are an embarrassment. How many times do you hear about test conducted by National Geographic that conclude that the education the kids are receiving is pathetic at best. We have a Press Secretary who did not know about the Cuban missile crisis. We had a VP who wanted to learn Latin so that he cold speak the language in Latin America.

I do not agree that they have us by the balls. I believe we have given our balls to them. Perhaps if we are lucky, the people will take their balls back before it is too late. Hopefully it will be a peaceful coup.

When you look at history, no empire has ever lasted forever. The Egyptians, Romans, Turks, Chinese, English .... all gone. Te people are still there, but the empire is gone. Seems that most in the US seem to think they are immune to history. Little do they know that at some point we will be part of history. I just hope I do not live long enough to see it.

Cosworth,

I agree that we are the government and it is up to us to take our government back. I hope in the fall we will elect someone who will help do that. However I am afraid that we have waited too late for a peaceful coup. Corprate America basically owns our government. They have taken the billions of dollars that they have made by our labor, (it kills me how people think that the rich got rich all by themselves.) Most of them made thier billions with thier capital (which now adays is just borrowed money) and the labor of many blue colar workers such as our selves. These people throw so much money at our political leaders in the form of "favors" that it is virtually impossible for them not to take the bait. We have a lot of good people in our government but they are lobbied so hard that they do what they need to do to get re-elected. Our system is corrupt. I do not believe our founding fathers would approve of the way money is involved in campaigns and governing today. What can we do but stay informed and try to elect the best people we can. The problem is most people dont care YET. I think things will have to get worse for people to really get upset enough to press our politicians to make some changes. After the last 7 1/2 years I think people are getting there.
