FAA approves move by Atlanta-area airport opposed by Delta

you forgot to mention that the community is no different from the others in N. Georgia who don't want a commercial airport.

and the County Commissioners have said they will kill the project.

"Nobody wants this expansion," said Dan McLagan, a spokesman for the Committee to Protect Paulding County, a non-profit that put up a website arguing against commercial airline service."

"Austin, the commission chairman, said meetings were held openly. "We never had to meet in secret because nobody ever came to our meetings," he said. "Until we announced we're going for the (commercial certificate) nobody cared."

I think it's brilliant to add another airport - cities like New York, South Florida (MIA, FLL, PBI), LA area - this will help grow the Atlanta region economically - it's disappointing DL wants to hold ATL back

except the community doesn't want it.

you couldn't build a new airport in the US anywhere today and neighbors don't want any current airports that do not currently have commercial service converted to have it now.

the community, not DL, have killed the plans for a commercial airport in Paulding County.

Hmm isn't this like the community that lives near DAL not wanting a mega airport in their back yard.... I LUV how you can push for unfettered access at DAL and want to prevent opening of a new airport for Atlanta because it would protect the community.

the Dallas community spoke and limited DAL to 20 gates - which have to be shared with any carrier that wants to serve it.

the Paulding County community (interestingly, the county seat is also Dallas) doesn't want ANY commercial service in their county.

the community has spoken in each case.

and, nope, I am not pushing for unfettered access at DAL... just open to any competitors that want to come along.

A nonprofit group has spoken against this case. Delta has spoken against this case. ATL airport authorities have spoken against this case. DALPA has spoken against this case.

The county commission has not voted, therefore it has not spoken against this case.

3 of the 5 county commissioners that will take office after the first of the year have said they are against the proposal.

it is going nowhere.

This is solely an effort by a developer in Paulding County to try to force thru commercial service even though it has been denied before from the same airport, the same way it has in multiple other airports in N. Georgia.

thank you for listing the number of entities that are opposed to it as well.

there are at least two threads on this topic and none of them are terribly long.

The article came from Forbes.

The citizens of Paulding County don't want their airport commercialized.

If it is so readily available, why can't you cite your sources.  You almost never cite any sources when you make your "factual" statements.

we could ask the same thing about AA and DAL.... how many years ago did DFW open?

DL just happens to recognize that leaving the door open even an inch opens a risk that DL doesn't want in its backyard.

Neither did UA at DEN.

DAL/DFW just happened to be the case study to use to make sure that the original airport is rendered unusable.

btw, the DOT says they are not investigating anyone but are instead just looking at facts.

“A number of entities have raised questions and concerns about the possible commercialization of Paulding, and we are looking into those questions and concerns,” DOT spokesman Brian Farber said Friday, in a prepared statement. “We are not focusing on any particular entity. We are simply trying to assess the facts.”

it also appears that DL has asked the DOT to investigate Paulding County.

"Delta has long opposed a proposal by developer Propeller Investments and the Paulding County commission to develop Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport, a general aviation airport, for commercial aviation. The county and the airline have each asked the Transportation Department to investigate the other."

“The proposal is a waste of taxpayer dollars, violates the city’s restrictions on the land, and would siphon off increasingly scarce federal funding that’s more needed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport,” Delta said, in a prepared statement.

“It’s also an attempt to subvert the will of the electorate in Paulding County, who overwhelmingly voted out proponents of commercializing this general aviation airport in recent county elections,” the airline said..

further
"In a recent letter to DOT Secretary Anthony Foxx, three electees to the Paulding County Commission say they expect that when they take office in January, they will comprise a majority of the five-member board, and they would oppose the effort to create an alternate airport."

I would LUV to see this secondary airport get in.  They all say a need for a 2nd port way back in the 70's.  Now Delta is screamin not to get it along with the city of Atlanta.  Well of course the 2 biggest that will be affected the greatest will be against something that will actually benefit anyone flying into Atlanta. And of course Delta doesn't want any more competitors in Atlanta.  Gee, it would be the exact same thing we have over here in Dallas, the only difference is the ports in Atlanta would be a little further apart from each other.
