In the UK we have "Flight Information Service Officers". Now, since I have a Flight Information Service officers exam booked for the 24April to earn money over here to save for the flying in Canada, before I become a pro pilot of some description in Canada, can I use my FISO to be one in a FSS in Canada? I train in Canada so know the differences and I know what they do and to the best of my knowledge, it is pretty much the same as the UK ones. Dont give instruction unless necerssary, just advise the pilots of whats going on...

If anyone could help with my question, I would be very greatful...

Smooth skies,
Dan

Daniel,

I have not personally heard of any conversion courses from a foreign certification to the canadian one.

I''m pretty sure you would have to go through the 6 month course, however you''d likely jump to the top of the list for a course date, and should be able to breeze through the course.

On my FSS course about a year ago there was someone from the U.K. who at the very least was fully qualified to do some aspects of the job back in the U.K., I don''t know if he was FISO or not but he had to go through the entire thing.

Krikey...6 month course just to advise a pilot!

In the UK, you just apply to an exam, with the revision aids on the internet to print off in PDF format, then sit the exam (quartetrly-ish). The next one is 24th April.

Once passed, you go to a FISO unit, and they give you the required 40 hours "on site" training at the active airfield in question. A small test follows and you become certified to work alone.

6 months though, that must mean you know more than us

Smooth skies,

Dan.

Hmmm...curious about what you mean by "just" advise a pilot? There''s a lot more to the job than airport advisories.
