Fitch cuts AMR's and AA's debt ratings

Downgraded to junk, with the likes of USAir? That must make your skin crawl. Reminds me of when the AA'ers on here thought US should be stripped of its China route and punished severly for postponing. Then, AA postponed a week later.

Strange.

There is a difference between an airline who has the means and ability of flying a route and another who wanted to put it off due to the fact that they didnt have an aircraft capable of flying it.

Hey, I resemble that remark. 😀

That was me calling for AA to petition the DOT to strip US of its new China route when US announced it wanted to delay but I don't recall posting anything about seeking "severe punishment" for US (other than losing the route). 🙂

As FA Mikey points out, US didn't have a suitable airplane for the route and still has no suitable airplane. Wonder if it will ever acquire an airplane (or two or three) for this route?

So if AA had "the means of flying the route", and poor "junk rated" USAir couldn't afford the plane, then why didn't AA start their coveted China route? Why did AA ask for the delay a week after US?

Why would US acquire a plane for China in this environment? Airlines are losing their shirts to China. If the economy stays as it is, I hope US will have the foresight to postpone (yet again) before AA and the rest, just as they did before....

Thanks for the info, We were not aware usair could not afford to purchase a plane to fly the route. Its great you want to rewrite history and say usair had the foresight to postpone a service due to the economy and not its ability to have an aircraft suitable to fly the route. AA and the others said the rising price of oil, along with the softening loads to China as reasons to postpone.

The difference is UAL, DAL, NWA and AA could start service tomorrow if they wanted. Usair would just start looking for a plane to buy.

Somewhat true, UAL and NWA-DAL already have plenty of frequencies and do not need to start service tomorrow because it was started years ago, AA and US are in a different boat., at least thats what the "experts" are saying.

Sure it is you quoted my post and made some odd reference to experts and then when you got called on it you claimed it was in reference to another post.

Didnt AMR secure some credit a few months back before all the S$#* hit the fan to cover some of these obligations..? I was under the impression that securing those monies would help AMR avoid possible default in deep 09 ans 10..?
I am NO expert at this by any means..anyone care to chime in and enlighten..?

Who says USAir could not afford to buy a plane? Huh? It is funny tho, re reading the thread on here about how US should be punished and stripped of its rights to fly China, and then AA postpones their own service. Come on, it was funny. (Open mouth, insert foot  )

And who cares if US has to look for a plane to buy, as opposed to already having it? If they decide to start PEK (which I believe they won't, since y'all are losing your shirts over the Pacific), I am sure they would be able to secure said aircraft, in this environment, pretty easily.
