Got a call today that notice went out that we are furloughing in TPA. Not sure if its a local thing or if there will be furloughs elsewhere. We were told 6 part time (still on probation gone for good probably) and 3 full timers. Also fleet advised, but I wasnt given numbers for them.
We are going down to 16 flights a day (from current 21) in Sept and on some days will be down to 12.
Anyone else get notice?

8 station closures, AUS ELP ICT OMA MKE BUR COS LGB

COS and ICT were two of the original America West cities. I was surprised they were able to keep mainline employees as long as they did, both have been express only for years.

From USAirways.com

On August 1, 1983, with 277 employees and three Boeing 737-200s, America West began service from Phoenix to Kansas City, Wichita, Colorado Springs, and Los Angeles.

This is the email that was sent out....

Dear Fellow Employees,

We have some difficult news to share with you today. While last year’s oil prices were the big story, the fall off of business demand and a significant decline in revenue this year is an equally big story. Last year, we took aggressive action to address changing business conditions by instituting an a la carte program, reducing our flight schedule and improving operational efficiency. All of this has added up to fewer flights and better productivity that has helped us weather these tough economic times.

Today’s economy demands we continue to look for ways to control costs. And while we had hoped attrition – or the number of employees retiring or choosing to leave positions for new ones – would take care of overstaffing that resulted from our reduced schedule and operating efficiencies, this simply hasn’t proven to be the case. Last year, attrition was significantly higher than it is today. This has meant that when we’ve needed staffing reductions in the past, attrition has usually been sufficient to meet our needs. In today’s economy, however, this is no longer the case with attrition hovering in the low single digits. So, we find ourselves with more employees than our operation requires.

As a result, we must reduce airport staffing by approximately 600 positions this fall. Included in this number, we will also close the LAS US Airways Club and the PHX City Ticket Office, reduce staff at the PHX US Airways Club, reduce staff in Central Load Planning and transition to outside vendors for ramp service functions in nine of our stations - the majority of which support Express flying. A detailed Q&A about these reductions is available on Wings and theHub.

Decisions like this are hard to make, and even harder to receive. We are doing our best to minimize the impact on our people. Earlier today, employees affected by this announcement received information explaining their options as outlined in their collective bargaining agreements. Company representatives will also be on hand in the coming days to provide these employees with information about what to do next.

We appreciate the dedication and contributions to US Airways by those affected by these changes. For all of us, our mission is clear. We must continue to run a great operation, as efficiently as possible – that means providing a safe, reliable and convenient experience for our customers. Let’s keep running a great airline and work together to return US Airways to profitability.

Sincerely,

Robert

8 station closures, AUS ELP ICT OMA MKE BUR COS LGB

From the Q&A on The Hub..............It sounds like we are not pulling out all together.

"What are the nine stations that will be transitioning to outside vendors for our fleet service
functions?
The nine stations are: AUS, BOI, BUR, COS, ELP, ICT, LGB, MKE, OMA. These stations are
currently staffed with fleet service employees with the exception of BOI, which is staffed with
passenger service employees."

Anybody know what this JUNIORITY term means? My manager told me this and it sounds fishy as hell. He said we would be given the option "Maybe" to go to another station, with juniority.

I wonder if any more clubs will close. You have to wonder about the ones in Greensboro, Hartford, Raleigh & Tampa.

Juniority refers to the process where a FTer that is laid off out of a city has the opportunity to displace the juniorist agent in the system. The process is defined in the contract and procedures are agreed upon between the company and union. Basically, it goes like this; a layoff notice is given to the junior FT employees in the city where the reduction is taking place. Since these people may not be the juniorist in the system, they have the opportunity to fill a vacancy (if one exist) or after all vacancies are filled, displace the juniorist employee in the system. The layoff notice will list any vacancies and then the cities where the juniorist employees work. The laid off agent must select the cities he/she is willing to accept. Once all the paperwork is return, then Station Services begins with the juniorist person who has been laid off and matches his/her selection against where the juniorist employee works. If that city is listed by the agent, then he displaces that junior agent. If it isn't selected then that agent is simply laid off to the street. They go onto the next junior employee being laid off and go through the same routine. As an example of what can happen, suppose that the juniorist agent is in PHL. On the layoff selection list, no one selects PHL. Then all the laid off people go to the street and no juniorist employee is displaced. This can get fairly complicated as each laid off agents selections are gone through. Say the 5 juniorist agents are in PHL, the 6th juniorist agent is in DCA. No one will be able to displace the DCA person until the 5 junior agents in PHL are displaced. So, they could go through 5 laid off agents or 500 laid off agents, until 5 have selected PHL, the DCA agent is not "on the bubble". Now this can get very frustrating as a more senior laid off agent may have wanted to go to PHL or DCA, but will only have the opportunity to go to say PHX because that is where the then juniorist agent is after the more juniorist agents have been displaced.

From the Fleet CBA:
Effective December 31, 2011, any of the following stations (ABQ, AUS, BUR, ELP, OAK,
OMA, ONT, RNO, SJC, SLC, SMF, PDX, MSP, MCI, MKE, SEA, DEN and SAN) may be
out-sourced if they fall below twenty-eight (28) weekly jet departures on an annualized basis. If
any of these stations are out-sourced after December 31, 2011 the Company will be required to
in-source those stations where the weekly jet departures increase to forty-nine (49) on an
annualized basis.

The Company scores a crown jewel in the contract and they can't even abide by that?!?!?!!?
