Although the 3600a is a rather nice machine. It has a few problems that Garmin, to date, will not recognize.
When entering a new ROUTE, when you get to the 21st waypoint, the unit either locks up or reboots itself. I have tried this with Custom WayPoint and with Predefined (Aviation) Waypoints. You can actually ADD waypoint 21 but the moment it is touched, "Add Wpt" (22nd) is touched, and I believe even when just displayed on the screen... the unit goes bye bye. Garmin said that a route should be able to hold up to 250 waypoints... but not on mine.
Map programs like Figawi, will not talk to the unit. Yes Figawi says that it has PDA support, but that is only using the Fugawi Palm software. It will not interface with Garmin software.
Garmin MapSource is not much better. You can create Waypoints on MapSource and upload them, but not visa-versa. You can download a TRACK, but not visa-versa. No Routes (once the waypoints have been uploaded to the Palm, you must create the Route... so long as it doesn't have more than 20 waypoints).
The unit seems to enjoy locking up or just loosing its place. I have had several occassions where features did not work and the unit needed to be RESET to get the function operable.
If you're thinking about loading the complete US MapSource so that everything is available at one time, you will need a minimum of a 2g card.
MapSource doesn't appear to allow the import of other digital maps. You willhave to do with plotting your FLIGHT on a City Map.
