American Airlines traffic rises to March record

NEW YORK, April 2 (Reuters) - AMR Corp.s (NYSE:AMR - News) American Airlines on Friday reported better-than-expected monthly traffic data, setting the highest March load factor on record at 75 percent.
Load factor, a percentage of seats filled in planes by paying passengers, rose 3.6 points compared to last year, the company said.

What makes it even better news is that AA has higher capacity this year than last; so, we had more seats to fill.

I agree that this is very good news since March is considered a slow month and this is a good sign that once things keep going smoothly AA will have a good second and third quater this year.

Oh, Good. AA is filling planes. As a March non-rev traveler I saw that the hard way.

But did they make a profit?

Keep in mind last March the industry was facing SARS and Gulf War II. More likely most of the airlines will show increased boardings from last years depressed levels.
