I think Gordon Bethune did a great job turning around COA. I am wonderin how others feel. I think that COA will be the number 1 airline in the US in the next 5 years.

I think Gordon is a Great CEO he has all the contacts, and the knowhow..but I think he needs Greg to do as good as he did from 96-2000. I think Gordon and Greg are down right unstoppable..but unfortunatly I heard they couldn't get along or had diffrent ideas on where to go with the company. I am glad we have Gordon on our side..till the end of this year. I heard he will stay as a consultant...but who knows.

Good job!! WTG Gordo

From everything we've seen and read CO is the best airline in the US now. We at UA have along way to go if we every hope to just get close to your airline.

Yes Boroscope, we need at least one more bankruptcy to be that good! America doesn't seem to think that CO is the best, they think B6 or LUV

I think he a geneious, any one who can keep an airlne out of BK and financially viable in a enviroment like this deserves deserves kudos. He should be given a huge $10 plus million golden parachute.

You need to read some of the industry publications, B6 and LUV and our BK airline don't even rate on the charts. CO was the only U.S. airline to rate in the top 3. They were there with the BA's, Singapore's and Cathay's. Pretty good company if you ask me. I didn't see B6 or LUV on the list.

That's because they didn't APPLY for the honor. Yes, apply. That's how they get included. LUV and B6 didn't wish to apply (or they would have blown CO out of the water) 😉

I think he is a great CEO but is very much a pessimist. Every time he speaks about the industry it's always gloom and doom!!

Well Gordon is known around here as a straight talker. He doesn't beat around the bush or say it in a nice way. He will even use all four letter words to get his point across, even if he is in a meeting or a company function. Just ask anyone of us who have been to his CEO exchanges. If the outlook is doom and gloom..he will say it. Its kinda nice, especially in a industry full of management who loves smoke and mirrors.

What honors are you refering to that you must "apply" for? Also, for what it's worth, I don't think either of the carriers that didn't "Apply" fly anywhere in the Atlantic, Pacific, Mexico or S.A., So, in all your great wisdom, tell us all how do you submit an application to be included? I have some friends at other airlines that might be interested.

Looking at the post-9/11 aviation world from an airline employee standpoint, I'd say he's freakin' genius. To date, no CO flight attendant has been furloughed--there are over 5,000 of us at AA on the streets. To date, no CO flight attendant has had to give a dime in pay or benefits back to the company--do we have enough time to recount the concessions at AA, U, and UAL? And, it's probable that those companies are heading back for more.

I know Mr. Bethune has said publicly that he might have to furlough employees or ask for concessions, but it hasn't happened yet. And, CO has managed to maintain a high level of service and amenities for their passengers. Before anyone says that JetBlue and Southwest rate higher, I think you need to look at who is doing the rating. CO is not transporting the people who normally "fly" Greyhound like B6 and LUV do. And, yes, I've flown them both. Didn't care for it. Given a choice, will fly CO anytime over either of those two.

As would I, if I were in the front. If I have to be in coach, I prefer B6 myself. This is why I ultimately had to leave CO for NW...I couldn't afford to keep myself up front.

NW's FF bonus levels are easier to attain than CO's?

In essence, yes. On CO, the leisure fares generate 50% elite qualifying mileage. On NW, it's still 100%.

CO fares also tend to be higher, and there's a much higher likelihood of flying Barbie Dreamjets, which have no FC seats. NW also has a better F/Y ratio, especially on their DC9s.

Gordo's way overrated! With hubs in Houston and NYC, plus sweethart labor agreements that gave him very low costs AND a roaring economy, how could CO NOT make money? It doesn't surprise me at all that he's leaving now that the easy money is gone!
