The above link will take you to a government study on our profession.

Note that the government projects a 17% increase in employment between now and 2010. Most it coming from the airlines.

Unfortnately we are tied to this TWU contract until 2009. With the average negotiations running 15 months that puts us past the window of opportunity. Basically its the same thing they did to us in 1995.

Its time to get rid of this union.

We need a mechanics union !

According to the reprt 51% of the A&Ps work for the airlines, 80,500 mechanics, plus another 78000 in other jobs such as third party overhaul. That leaves us with at least 158000 possible members for AMFA. Around 50,000 more than what the TWU has, 158,000 A&P mechanics in one union that is committed to bringing up the wages and standards for aircraft mechanics. A union thats 30% bigger than the TWU but 100% focused on mechanics issues!

Tell us CIO and all the other TWU supprters that the Pilots, Carpenters, electricians and all the other craft unions would tell a union that represents over 100,000 mechanics in the industry that they are not Welcome in the AFL-CIO. Hell by then the TWU will likely be down to 50,000 members, at best.

On another note 73% of all the liscenced A&P mechanics are over the age of 38. The vast majority are middle aged, so they knew we were stuck here, thats why the TWU did what they did. They knew they would get away with it. Only 27% are under 38 years of age. 38% are 50 to 70 years of age.

We need to get rid of the TWU so that next time demand is here we can use it to our advantage. Our careers cant afford another 6 year TWU Industry Leading Concessionary contract. The opportunity will be there, we just need to be in the right union to exploit it. AMFA now so we can have a future tomorrow!

PS. Note that the illustratration of an aircraft mechanic at work shows a mechanic wearing an AMFA jacket!
