Guess Which Airline Cut Costs Most Last Year?

ATA slashed unit costs 16.5% last year.

USAir cut 10.3%

AMR cut 8.9%

UA cut 7.5%

DL was major carrier to see unit costs rise and had the worst operating margin in the industry last year, except for UA.

(all these numbers per today's WSJ folks)

Two years ago USAir paid 71% more to fly one seat one mile than Southwest. Last year USAir was 49% more expensive on the cost side, a difference it can't make up on the revenue side
