A U.S. Airways employee was being questioned by authorities this morning after a bag containing an unloaded gun apparently circumvented security and made it onto a plane at Philadelphia International Airport, police said.

A passenger waiting to board Flight 1195, destined for Phoenix, noticed another passenger handing a carry-on bag directly to the airline employee, said Officer Christine O'Brien, a Philadelphia police spokeswoman.

Great! So if I want to carry-on an unloaded handgun, all I have to do is find the right employee to smuggle it onboard? Fantastic!

But at least he or she passed their background check.

The silence from everyone makes me wonder what is going on.

I'm not getting this. The story implies that the passenger observed this prior to boarding, which to me means in the gate area.

How would a gun get past passenger security, let alone employee security??

I don't think so...it sounds more like some secret or undercover person that was supposed to not be subjected to possible visual recognition as being someone who went through the "carrying a weapon" procedure.

I am just making a guess based on the hush from all the powers that be.

My guess from what I've read? ex employee asked current employee to get this item by so that he doesn't have to put it in his checked bags. I'm guessing drugs might be involved, gang members and BFF's of gang bangers.

My guess is that this same sort little thing played out on Delta when a ganger followed a "rapper" out to LA to shoot him a couple of weeks ago.

Might have to put TSA at the door to every plane.

The snitching passenger may have seen the transfer outside the sterile area (prior to passing thru the TSA checkpoint). There's nothing in the story that leads me to think it was at the gate.

To get a gun pass security - wouldn't that person have to be an FFDO? Just a thought.....

It just came over the AP wire that US Airways customer service agent, Roshid Milledge, and the passenger, Damien Young have been charged and are in FBI custody.

That was one alert passenger. Good catch.

PHILADELPHIA - The FBI charged a US Airways employee with helping his roommate get a concealed, semiautomatic handgun onto a plane departing Philadelphia early Thursday.

Customer service agent Roshid Milledge switched black carry-on bags with passenger Damien Young at the gate so Young could board the 7 a.m. flight to Phoenix with the unloaded 9 mm weapon, the FBI said in an affidavit.

Young, 29, was moving to Phoenix and had asked Milledge about the procedures for transporting guns. Milledge, 38, instead agreed to carry the bag through an employee entrance so it would not be screened by security.
Linkage to the rest

Don't get it. They have guns in Phoenix. Why throw your life away by taking a gun on a plane? Just go to the barrio or a pawnshop if you feel the need to bust a cap in a fool. 9 mm will just make the guy mad if you shoot him with that. You need a gun with some punch - like a 45.
