Hexavalent Chromium Law Suit(s)

I heard at my annual 'Video Vacation' @AFW Training, about a lawsuit over damages to those who dry sanded the 'PEPSI' stripes on our aluminum cans (jets). AA does not have an ENVIRONMENTAL PERMIT to SPRAY paint (at any base) onto our planes (That is why we use a ROLLER to apply the paint! Soon AA will be converting our livery to a DECAL). This lawsuit is brought by an individual (Unknown) SRP Painter who is now an AMT. After considerable probing, I found out this individual is now at DFW!

I inquired some friends who frequently toil at the 'Crystal Palace' on Amon Carter Blvd, as to the impAAct upon AA. All I received was a few weak words of Doom & Gloom with a caveat to keep quiet.

Does anyone else happen to have a few facts up their sleeve?

<_< ------Sounds like another one of AA's screw up's! Again, the management Big Boys have no idea of what they bought! It just so happens we have, what we call our "wet dock" here at MCIE! We used it for stripping, and painting our old TWA aircraft! TWA painted everything! We didn't know what a Decal was! Environmental permits in place! At least they were! That's if AA didn't let them go? Oh! did I mention the wet dock is supposed to go back to the City along with the rest of the old hanger by the end of the year? 😉

If I were defending AA in this lawsuit, it's posts like yours that would cause a subpeona to USAviation so the jury could judge your true motivation.

true motivation?????????? you gotta be kidding me....money, duh! If you ever spent anytime in overhaul and saw how these planes were sanded and painted you'd know that eventhough we wore respirators and jumpsuites, when I got home and took a shower, I still blow chunks of dust out of my nose and eyes....now it was many years ago for me and I have never even considered a lawsuite, but if one were brought, I'd at least want some details cause I might have some interest for my health in the longrun. And I'll go in front of any judge and jury and spell out my true motivation.

Money's not a motivator for people in your caste. Money is not a motivator for people in your caste,,,,,,, Its evil, selfish, unrealistic, delusional, immoral and any other negative connotation you can think of for you to pursue money, you should work for the pleasure of making others rich, and if that work leaves you with a chronic or terminal illness consider it a small sacrifice to the greater good of making the rich richer, you should not expect monetary compensation for your suffering, in fact you should thank the rich for allowing you to suffer because the more you suffer now the greater your reward shall be in Heaven.

<_< ----- The thing is when AA bought TWA, they also bought curtain environmental permits that can not be replaced today! But in most cases, they either weren't interested, or were just ignorant about the fact. Two come to mind off the top of my head. One, our chrome plating shop, and the one for spray painting and chemical striping! Now could that be construed as negligence in this case?------ Just a thought!

Maybe I'm missing something, but I find it hard to believe that AA would have passed an OSHA inspection without having the proper permits in place.

Regardless, with or without a permit, if you're exposed, you're exposed.

The MSDS for the paint used on the stripes is required to be onsite or available online on-demand.

It's pretty easy to see if HexChrom is listed, and the concentration is also listed along with the safety precautions required.

Recently, we were required to attend an OSHA briefing on Hazards in the Workplace led by another consultant for AMR who stated, "OSHA has not been involved in the air carrier industry until recently, while the EPA has been extensively involved including enforcement cases against American Airlines."

He further stated that in the future, AMR anticipated more OSHA involvement in the air carrier industry and in the maintenance of aircraft in particular.

He refused to talk about the safety of laundering our uniforms in the same washing machine where we launder the rest of the family laundry.

I'm in favor of employee safety and workers recovering whenever they're injured on the job due to their employers' negligence (or worse).

My post was aimed at helping any potential plaintiffs out there - and the first thing any lawyer will advise their client is to

STOP POSTING ABOUT IT ON AN INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD.

If you think you've been injured, contact a lawyer or privately contact one of the plaintiffs to one of the existing lawsuits. But don't go talking about it and saying things the company lawyers will want to use against you later.
