I just flew SAN to PIT on an A319 and was sitting in coach. I was in absolute shock at the appearance of the seat coverings. Threadbare and frayed at the edges of the headrest !! Customers have been complaining about the penmarkings on the FC seats, but does anyone care what the coach seats look like?

This looks horrible.

1 other question/statement.........

there was no Inflight Cafe on this 7:30am flight. The gate agent said they didn't service the plane. Is this going to be the norm now? Or is this a fluke?

The oldest plane in the airbus fleet is about 6-7 years old. we stareted to take delivery of them in 98/99.

what you want from a company that has no money?

Of course, this is why so many of the LCCs are now going with all leather seating. Not only is it nicer (which is why it's been in FC for so long), but it's cheaper in the long run. It's cheaper to maintain and lasts much longer. While UAIR certainly wasn't alone in deciding to go with cloth seating, it's a shame that it took LCCs like B6 to figure out what seems so obvious now - pay a little more up front to save a lot in the long run and have a nicer product for your passengers.

On the plus side, it's nice to see the E170s with leather seating. I presume any of the E175s or E190s that may be delivered in the future will have leather in both coach and FC. Hopefully, this will be the case on UAIR's larger aircraft in the future, as well -- assuming the airline's around long enough to need them.

As for the pen marks, they're very difficult to get out of leather, but a somewhat darker color seat would do a lot to mask that problem.

SAN is a special case in that there is NO catering for any airline AFAIK

I can testify that there is at least one other airline--AA--that has no catering at SAN. It's a mess because we have a number of long-haul flights out of there. AA has found some sort of catering--sandwiches and such--but I get the impression from messages from the company that it has not been dependable.

Off topic, but does anyone know why there is no catering at SAN? Our caterer just closed up shop with about 2 weeks notice.
