So it seems as if consolidation is about to happen , so what will AA do? We all KNOW they won't be squeezed out. So the big question is " Will AA bid for LCC"? Looks like the only option left.

PHL, CLT, PHX, LAS works well w/ DFW, ORD, JFK, MIA,SJU. PHL could be "right-sized ". BOS huge market for US and AA. 777's-no need for the 350, 80's leaving AA soon, nicely replaced my Airbus and 737's! US 767's are aging out, more 330's. It could work. Not much overlap , just some retooling of HUBS and BYE BYE TEMPE!!! ANy thoughts?

And PLEASE logical ,intelligent thoughts would be nice - hey it's '08- nice fresh start...

Of all the airlines AA has the best shot to make it as a stand alone carrier.

This probably will be AA's reaction. They have the largest network of any airline, which means they are positioned well to take advantage of all the revenue gains from consolidation without doing anything about it. US brings nothing they need except maybe CLT and the shuttle. Airbuses don't fit into their fleet plans and PHL would be on the chopping block in favor of JFK. If they do anything, they might go after AS....better fit.

The only reason AA would merge with another airline would be to eliminate competition, layoff by the thousands, and park airplanes they can't figure out, can't use, and can't integrate.

Oh yeah, one more thing, "Two Great Airlines, One Great Future".

AA bid for LCC? Not a chance in hell. AA will sooner enter a bidding war for NW than offer to buy USAir. All USAir has is more slots/gates on the east coast, and AA already has enought of them (so many that attempts to buy more would probably be met with a Justice Department objection).

One daily frequency to China from Philly ain't gonna attract AA.

Attract AA? Hiding from them or mace-ing them would be the way to go, not attract them...

The idea of dropping PHL as a hub would require adding flights to another hub operation and JFK is slot restricted. Exactly how would you propose adding all of those flights to a slot restricted airport? That said, AA-US is obviously not going to happen.

...PHL would be on the chopping block in favor of JFK.

What I meant by this is in an AA/US scenario much of PHL would just be removed from the market and not transferred to JFK....consolidation. You are right about JFK not being able to handle much more.

You dont want to be part of AA, all their CBAs contain LPPs that will basically staple you to the bottom of the seniority list.

Just look at what happened to the former TWA employees!

yep.... I'm sensing something more like LCC + NK in oneworld, but that's it.

We don't want AA any where near us. Why? Let's put it to you this way. If we merge with AA, then the US Airways board here on US Aviation will be completely empty because all of us will be toast! Unless you find employment at another airline, your aviation career will be over.
