can someone give me a rundown of helicopter types certified for flight in known icing?

thanks

On the civilian side, the Puma with the kit, and someday maybe the S-92 are all I know of.

Super P and thats it. The KA 32 has a blade heater that rocks. It's driven by a giant generator that sits between the two rotors. Not certified in Canada though.

I heard Sikorsky had a 76"D" model in the works that was to have deiced blades but not sure where it went. Anybody know if the AB139 is going to be certified for ice?

I've heard there's not too many of those Puma kits out there, anybody know the numbers?

Found the answer to my own question;

from the Agusta-Bell AB139 website;
Ice detection & protection option

But I couldn't find a date when the bird will be available.

Puma's, I'll ask some of the lads here in the know but if my memory serves correct there are 7. HS (CHC) has 3, Icelandic Coast Guard has one and we are drivin' the other three ships.

Gotta love it, with todays technology all a/c should have it. :up: :up:

The EH 101 is certified for flight in icing.

........it is also possible the Apache is approved because here's a photo of one for the top of a wedding cake, an area well known for heavy icing.

"the EC 155 B is the only helicopter in its class to offer the advantage of an optional deicing system" from http://www.helis.com/news/2000/ec155ifr.htm

http://www.awgnet.com/shownews/02nbaa/newsmk18.htm
"Pino reports a planned increase in S-76 production at the Sikorsky plant in Stratford, Conn., and says that future enhancements to the aircraft may include a boost to its Turbomeca Arriel 2S2 engines so as to be able to add an extra passenger, noise reductions both inside and outside the aircraft, and all-weather capability, including deicing."

and yes the Blackhawks are deiced;

http://www.crrel.usace.army.mil/techpub/fa...ts/pdfs/105.pdf

and

"NBAA 2002: TOP STORIES AIRFRAMES AVIONICS E-BIZ FBOs FRACTIONALS INTELLIGENCE MAINTENANCE NEWSMAKERS ... ... a new 19-place civil helicopter." He refers to the ... and all-weather capability, including deicing. Deicing will be standard ... based on Sikorsky's Blackhawk and Seahawk military birds. ..."
