<_< ------- Interesting article: http://travel.usatoday.com/flights/story/2011/03/-iPads-fuel-flight-of-paperless-planes-/45015854/1

I think it is interesting and I'm not adding the ambiguous emoticon that MCI used that makes it nearly impossible to tell how he feels about the issue.

This is an application of cool new technology that actually offers real-world benefits (besides just the coolness factor) like much less paper (and weight). Built-in computers on airplanes are well-accepted and help pilots fly planes, right? Portable devices like the iPad can probably make themselves very useful as well.

And your problem with the issue is?
😉 ------- Why is it that you feel I have to have an "issue" with this?---- I don't! But from someone who's gone from working on 707's and 880's, I just think it's just amazing how far we've come!

Thanks for clearing it up. I honestly didn't know what your intentions were by the title of "the beat goes on" or the emoticon.

On a pure cost basis alone, I've always been amazed that AA never addressed the fact of 9,000 pilots contorting themselves to fit a 40 lb bag of Jepps, flight manuals and MELs into the cockpist instead of equipping each aircraft individually. A good analysis of medical and sick leave costs would probably be stunning and be multiple times larger than any retrofit costs. I probably have $20-$30K of sick leave use over my career due to shlepping my flight bag and haven't needed any medical care or surgery. I don't have to look far to find many others with complete disabilities as well as very expensive operations and therapy costs to return to flight status.

Several airlines have gone the route of the EFB. AA's 777 fleet is pre-wired for the EFB but as of this time they have not incorportaed it into their operation.

The 787 will cure the flight bag issue(second page image from 777fixer). Complete EFB configured.
Of course, they'll still carry some sort of bag I imagine. They gotta have some kind of carry on to store there USAtoday, Barrons, Forbes etc magazines along with there personal belongings. Gotta do something to pass the time! 😛

I wish. I haven't seen a good illustrated periodical like that in the cockpit in nearly 20 years.

With the age of this group, a Home Depot circular is considered stimulating.
