Be VERY careful with whom you trust your working lives. Many profess to have "clout", but I suggest you read the Constitution and By-laws before voting. The IAM GAVE away an iron clad SCOPE agreement which cost every former TWA f/a their job. The ramp and mechanics did not do much better. When suits were filed, the crackerjack legal deptmart was nowhere to be seen. Every other local has a say in your representation. It is called a "white ballot". If the people you want are not voted in by JetBlue, the other locals will just offset your vote. Very little of your dues money stays with the Local. The "Grand Poopaws" have the ability to over-ride the vote of the membership if they think it is in the best interest of "the whole".
I have been a union member for 35 years. Most of that time I spent in various union positions working for the membership. I always said it wasn't about who had their name on the door. I was wrong. It is ALL about who has their name on the door. If you want to have a union, do your homework, even form an Independent, petition to join the AFL-CIO. Unite with other independents to form a strong
coalition. But please, think very carefully about your choice of the IAM.
And for the remark about the transcon turns...I find it interesting that those were TWA's most senior trips. lol
7 days on the property for a full months pay. The secret is insuring that you are not required to fly more than 2 legs a day for those long flights. Meeting and greeting, and saying "good by" is sometimes more tiring than the actual flight. I know of lots of people that would be very happy to have those turns.
