James Little, international president of the Transport Workers Union, isn’t running for reelection.
Little succeeded Mike O’Brien as president in 2006 and was elected to the job in 2008. But he has taken his name off this year’s election for union officers.
He went to work in 1971 as a fleet service clerk at American Airlines. He was elected president of a TWU local in 1990 and moved up the organization. In 2000, he was named director of the TWU’s air transport division.
Here’s his resume of significant dates, per the TWU:
1986-1990 TWU Local 540 Section Chairman
1990-1997 President of Local 542 – Aircraft Flight Dispatchers and Meteorologists, and Operations specialists
1995 Became a member of the TWU International Executive Board.
1997 TWU International Representative
1999 TWU International Vice President. In 2000 he was assigned additional duties as Director of the Air Transport Division.
2001 Elected TWU International Administrative Vice President and was the Air Transport Director.
2005 Elected TWU International Executive Vice President; Air Transport Director.
2006 Succeeded International President Mike O’Brien
2008 Elected TWU International President

Writing is on the wall for President Little and is ready to hand over the Presidency to his successor. President Buffenbarger.

TWU will merge with the IAM transportation department? No way. Too many appointed $200k international reps, business agents, $80k/year administrative assistants that want to keep their job for that to happen. The TWU will work with the IAM to the extent they maintain dues payers through the alliance and funds from the AFL-CIO but beyond that they don't give a hoot.

Unlike the IAM the TWU actually has some quality agreements like for Local 100 and WN FAs, just not for AA M&R and fleet service.

I have always wondered why you post here as a 'never in the industry' worker.
Yet you keep close tabs on the industry.
Is this your hobby? :p

I enjoy participating in this forum, I travel on AA for work and am interested in the industry. I missed my calling to work for the airlines. This is not a restricted forum, there are plenty of other posters on here who have never worked in the industry.

Good news! Does AA gave him a big help in exchange forall his ccooperation?

Thanks God. We just need to wait and see if the new one be better or worse. Worse? Is that possible?

After a few years of his $250k+ union salary, his retirement ,health care and whatever the AMR boys in Centrepork paid him to sell his union membership up the river, staying any longer would be nothing but pure greed, wouldn't it?

I don't see his myriad of diploma mill degrees listed anywhere, either.

He has actually been Little's VP for along time and already trained and has been paid well for the OJT.
