Just spoke this evening to one of my leo friends at CLT & this applies to CLT ONLY.
Are they Radar Certified ? No
Can they write state tickets for violations ? Yes
Yes they are police officers WITH FULL ARREST POWER.

You are right coach, they can write violations but did your LEO friend tell you he/she can not write actual speeding tickets because they have no way of determining the violators actual speed? This is from an LT I have worked with for many years in CLT...

FYI, there are other ways to determine a violators speed(maybe they don't that) but I will try to remember to ask about that.

Coach.....got the scoop...I just talked w/ a K9 officer, a ticket can be issued for driving over a reasonable speed, determined by driving conditions...
 
Does anyone happen to know the latest conditions of the people who were injured in the accident -- especially the lady who was driving the van?
