Letter from Airline Districts 141 and 141-M Requesting Discontinuance
of 5% US Airways (Iraq War) Pay Deferral
July 16, 2003

Mr. David Siegel
President and CEO
US Airways, Inc.
2345 Crystal Drive
Arlington, VA 22227

Dear David:

We are writing concerning the 5% pay deferral of base pay implemented for all employees as a result of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

We believe the criteria for continuance of the pay deferral is questionable.

As announced by President Bush, the invasion of Iraq has concluded and the U.S. troops are now an occupying force. In addition on May 6, 2003, US Airways Group, Inc. reported a net income for the first quarter of 2003 at $1.63 billion.

As a result of these and other issues, we are requesting to meet and confer with the Company regarding the discontinuance of the 5% pay deferral.

Your prompt response to a mutually agreeable date to begin dialogue regarding this issue would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Scotty Ford Randy Canale

There is no "questioning" about it.

THERE IS NO WAR EFFECT THAT HAD AN ADVERSE AFFECT ON THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY.

And, it is so blatantly obvious!

GIVE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember what we voted for (twice). The agreement read that the 5% will start as a result of an airial bombardment of Iraq and will continue for 18 months or unitl we gain a quarterly profit.
You can expect not to get it back until then. It has nothing to do with the end of war. You guys don''t even know what you voted for. No wonder the company thought we were confused and gave you losers another chance to hose yourselves.
You copy and paste things on this board like you know everything but actually appear to know nothing.

PITMTC your information is incorrect, the 5% was in the second round of concessions where there was only one vote, and it is for UPTO 18 months, not just 18 months

Difd, US only chooses to honor bits and pieces of contracts they agreed to, myself and pitbull could post hundreds of instances of this.

Pitbull and Lavman,

US Airways is only honoring the contracts that were agreed upon by the unions. Management did not force the 5% issue as it was voted and approved by the majority of your union members.

How long will the deferral period be in effect?
The deferral period will last no longer than 18 months. If the company reports a pretax profit in any quarter during which the deferral period is in effect, the deferral will immediately stop and repayment will begin in the next month.

Some additional information:
Published Mar 18, 2003
The FAA said a war with Iraq would pose one of the "greatest risks" to meeting the updated recovery targets forecast by the FAA, which include a 2.3 percent increase in domestic air traffic this year followed by a 4 percent jump in 2004.

PITMTC,

Now, could you so kindly state the rest of the language. NEVER MIND. I will...

to continue.... a) of those parts of Iraq that are not within the current no fly zone or introduces substantial numbers of ground troops into the territory,

(please pay careful attention to the most crucial language and the "trigger" for this language to legitimately enact it)....I will make it big for those who doubt.

OR, B) there is an act of terrorism which IN EITHER EVENT (pay attention..in either event...one or the other) has a MATERIAL and ADVERSE IMPACT on commercial aviation (meaning not just USAirways), there will be an immediate 5% pay deferral for up to 18 months.

ARE WE CLEAR? Can someone cite the MATERIAL ADVERSE AFFECT ON THE INDUSTRY. Who is being affected from the war? Were they in trouble before the war? How has the war affected the industry above and beyond where they were before the war?

EXCUSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEE MEEEEEEEEEEE FOR KNOWING HOW TO READ CONTRACT LANGUAGE.

in either event has an ADVERSE AFFECT ON THE INDUSTRY

do-it-for-dave,

Do not cite the inbetween language... read and cite the "triggering event " language...IT IS NOT THE WAR IN ITSELF, but the MATERIAL ADVERSE AFFECT THIS WAR WOULD HAVE ON THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY...NOT JUST USAIRWAYS.

You took part in writing that language, and you damn well know what it means.

Or should I just call this mangement "frauds". We agreed to the "triggering" mechanism to give you the 5%, NOT BECAUSE WE WENT TO WAR. We all knew we were going to war. We agreed to give the 5% for any ADVERSE affect this war or event would have on our Industry, sir. And IF it had an affect....

our CEO STATED IN THE WINTER CONCESSIONS THAT THEY WOULD NOT TAKE MORE FROM OUR W-2S; only work rules and benefits. Period.

If he keeps this money and continues with the deduction for the reasons the company cites, THEN HE IS A LIAR, AND YOU ARE JUST AS GUILTY.

Now, the FAA has decreased the alert and we are not even required to show our IDs at the gates as well. So much for the FORCAST from the FAA.
