Chip-
Believe me, you DON'T want Sen. McCain to take up your cause.....this is the same man who has tried to take away your freedom of speech during elections......

wasn`t he also the one who proclaimed"LET WEAK AIRLINES FAIL" ?

He is also one of the main sponsors of the bill which will force us into baseball arbitration when we can't reach an agreemant with the company on a new contract.I'll bet our pensions won't be as good as his!

McCain seems to be everywhere at once. Can anyone else see this coming together as a single bill?

1) Address pension funding issues
2) Mandate baseball arbitration under the RLA
3) Raising pilot retirement age to 65

A combination of #1 and #2 would leave ALPA and every other labor union in the very difficult position of having to chose between the right to strike and maintaining retirement benefits.

Since PEBs have been used so often in the past 10 years it probably isn't a bad tradeoff to preserve pensions.

Senator McCain would also like to get his hands on our slots at high-density airports so Congress can "re-distribute" them as they see fit. I'm afraid the simple truth is that many lawmakers in DC would just as soon see us gone. If we make it through this whole mess, it won't be because we got help from inside the beltway. We are on our own.

Re: 3)

A number of years ago, there was a rumor that 65 retire for pilots was written and laying on the desk. (At the Fed level.) The hold up was on how to handle the lawsuits of those who were forced out at 60. 5 years back pay, etc. From whom ?
