Would like the following question answered.

Why has the union not offered to negotiate some good rates for the retired employee's medical/dental plan. 🙁 As large as they are, they should be able to negotiate some decent rates as individual rates are very expensive.

Correction: Please excuse previous post (spelling errors)

Can the Unions negotiate some good group rates for retiree's medical/dental coverage. Hope to receive some assistance from our Unions if we loose our coverage.

I've been wondering how the company justifies ELIMINATING retiree health care. Wouldn't it be more equitable to reduce it, instead?

Maybe they're using the retirees' health care money to pay those over-age-55 flight attendants their $300 a month for health care, etc. (Voluntary furlough F/A's who may have 10-15 service and who probably prevented other actives from getting shown the door over the past couple of years need not apply, however.)

The unions have said themselves that they do not represent retirees. It sucks, but that's what they say.

Just curious do the retirees pay union dues and if not why would the union offer any help? We all know its dues and the headcount paying them that is all the unions care about.

The answer is a no-brainer, retirees pay no union dues so the unions could care less about them. The unions are a business so their eyes are mainly on their own bottom line. Any retiree benefits should be requested by current emplyees to their unions, but don't expect that to happen soon.

The IAM is representing the retirees and there are two 1114 committees formed, one for fleet and one for M&R.

We worked for the company just like you and were given a package for retirement and retired based on that. Now they want to take it away?? The union should do something for the retirees..Years ago, the unions offered medical/dental programs to retirees. We do not expect the unions to pay for our coverage, but we do hope that they can negotiate a good rate since they are a large organization. The employees that retired based on the medical coverage continuance should be able to return to work if the wish as their contract is being broken.
