Just got an email notice from the L514 propAAgAAndAAmeister re: the awarding of the Quill scholarships.

I cannot fathom why anyone would allow themselves (let alone their children) to be associated with the name of an individual who was a avowed member of the Communist Party, both in his native Ireland and the USA. I guess the lure of a few dollars is sufficient regardless of its source - sort of like last night's sloppy joe sandwiches - more of an insult than substance.

Send the twboo back to NYC, the home of crappy salsa.

A scholarship is a scholarship TWU households should apply for them and hopefully it will go to a worthy recipient. I applied for many scholarships in college, some came through others didn't. Just cast a wide net, write a compelling and thoughtful application and see what happens.

Frank you left out that he was part of the IRA.

Frank...just think of it as a going away gift for years of dues.

There's such a thing as pride and principle - you obviously have neither but, then again, you're an anti-blue collar SOB - quite understandable.

... and you got that info from the Wiki article I referenced - OK, you can read.

Thanks for the insult and personal attack Frank. My point is that TWU members pay for the scholarship so you might as well use it. Just because it's in honor of Michael Quill shouldn't be grounds to reject or not apply for it and certainly doesn't reflect ones pride and principles. Do you feel associated with Quill for your support for your collective bargaining unit the TWU?

Using assets from a source you do not believe in is hypocritical.

Mike Quill is the Singlemost reason that TWU Local 100 HAS THE BALLS that it has today !!!
I wouldn't care if the guy was a Grand Dragon of the KKK, or if he loaned the pension fund money to the IRA(think Hoffa SR./the MAFIA) as long as they paid it back with Interest !

Quill/Hoffa/the Mafia or the IRA are NOT your(AMT's) MOST PRESSING problem @ the moment, less someone FORGET !!!!!!!!!!!!

sheesh .

Mike Quill was a great Union leader. He fought the same types we are fighting. Yes he was a member of the IRA and I proudly say so was my Grandfather. Mike Quill used the intelligence methods that he learned as an IRA Freedom Fighter to combat the Bosses in transit who used spys and thugs to break up or neutralize any drive amongst the workers in Mass transit to improve their lives. He structured the union based upon the threories of James Connelly, a Socialist who founded a Transit Workers Union in Ireland and was executed by the Brittish after the 1916 Rebellion. Was he willing to employ the services of the American Communist Party to fight the Bosses? Yes, and why not? The Bosses had all the other politicians, judges, corporate Press and Cops on their side.

Mike Quill quote. "I'd rather be called a Red by the Rats than a Rat by the Reds".

He structured the union based upon the threories of James Connelly, a Socialist who founded a Transit Workers Union in Ireland and was executed by the Brittish after the 1916 Rebellion.

And today the union is structured and run by the anti-socialist corporate apologists who are out to make themselves and not their members wealthy, and would never be found--let alone executed--in a rebellion.
