Cmdr. Guy Snodgrass, until recently a Pentagon speech writer for the chief of naval operations, Adm. Jonathan Greenert, said sailors are becoming fed-up with the constant emphasis on social issues — an apparent reference to gays in the military, women in combat and ending sexual harassment.
 

“The U.S. Navy has a looming officer retention problem,” Cmdr. Snodgrass writes, adding there is an “erosion of trust in senior leadership.”
He says retention racked up its “worst year in history” for the special warfare community, including Navy SEALs, with a record number of lieutenants declining to stay.

Hate to say “I told you so” but President Obama’s disinterest in enhancing our combat capability in favor of social egalitarianism and a warped sense of social justice is indeed having an impact on war readiness.

NEWS FLASH - The US Military IMO should have only ONE objective and that is to kill our enemies with ruthless efficacy.

To borrow the lyrics of the Talking Heads "This ain't no party, this ain't no disco this ain't no fooling around".

We are headed towards Barack's Soccer Mom Army at an alarming pace. Military members aren't police. There job is to kill them all and let God sort it out. Time to remember this little tidbit.

As to gays in the military? As long as they can fire a weapon and hit the target I don't much care if they have sex with farm animals. Just so long as they kill the enemy rapidly with extreme prejudice.

Exactly right...except perhaps for the farm animals bit. 😉

The "commander"/pimp-in-chief must really be doing things right for America! Well that "logic" takes care of everything then, but I checked my passport and it is American, and I then looked around and realized I wasn't in Israel...or even Fantasyland, like some clearly are. Perhaps you should take the time to do that yourself, unless of course you have the IDF on speed dial and can make sure they'll always be wherever they're needed to defend America...?

The lessons of history are important. Dec 7, 1941 we learned from Dai Nippon the price paid for having a then woefully inadequate and unaware military. Sept 11, 2001 we again learned the price paid for blissfully pretending our actual enemies are anything but just that, an utterly insane, indulgent fantasy that such as yourself promote to this day, I might add. In over 2 centuries of ever-evolving warfare; we've learned how to produce a cohesive military that can defeat any enemy in the field. Do you honestly suggest there's any inherent "wisdom" in blindly ignoring all such lessons?...Why? Simply for the sake of social experimentation?
 
You tout Israel as some supposed mentor, which is laughable where the United States is concerned. Just a few facts from a war the USA saw prior to starting to drown the armed forces in "political correctness", to such an extent that many of us who then served would never tolerate. This was in engagement with the world's then 4th largest military, and the foremost power among the likes that Israel ever fought against in the region: U.S. Casualties: 148 battle deaths, 145 non-battle deaths, 1 missing in action. Lowest estimates of Iraqi KIA during the aerial campaign alone: 10,000 to 12,000, with no accurate tally of those lost in the subsequent ground assault possible, and with over 71,000 POWs taken.  So...We should "learn" from Israel?...I hate to break this to you, but they've taken plenty of notes from us, and rightly so.
 
Bottom Line: Learning "sensitivity", "embracing diversity" and sitting around holding hands and singing Kumbayah doesn't kill/defeat any enemy, ever. Never has and never will. "Embracing" that sort of utter insanity is what's produced not less than 200 KIA while destroying the worlds' then 4th largest army, but THOUSANDS of precious young American's lives needlessly sacrificed since.
