Hopefully this posting will allow us to reflect on Mr.. Siegel's comment:

Quote: "Although I hold a bachelor of science degree in applied mathematics and have done graduate-level work in operations research methods and econometrics, I have no idea what a “genetic optimization programâ€￾ is. I am more familiar, however, with terms like “genetic counseling,â€￾ “genetic code,â€￾ and “genetic defect.â€￾

A genetic optimization program is a computer program that uses evolutionary algorithms. It is a branch of mathematics that was inspired by the study of natural evolution, and basically follows the same steps (fitness assignment, selection, Replication, recombination crossover, mutation,... and so on) Genetic optimization program are software that can morph themselves, to model the human thought process. There are three 'schools': genetic algorithms, evolutionary strategies, and evolutionary programming.
These find usage in in the development of artificial intelligence, or other complex solutions

Hi Leichtigkeit,

I'm curious, having been in non-mathematical fields when I was in college, do you mean to imply that "genetic optimization programs" are in some exotic corner of mathematics or are they more generally studied in the academic fields in which Mr. Siegel studied.

That additional information would help us in our reflections upon his statements.

Thanks in advance,
