FORTUNE columnist cites Delta as example in big labor's Washington agenda

In a column by FORTUNE Magazine senior editor-at-large Nina Easton, the obstacles to getting representation issues resolved at Delta is presented as an example of big labor’s Washington agenda to make unionization easier across many industries in the U.S.
“[Delta people] voted under new rules that the unions asked for,” Easton quoted Richard as saying in the piece. “They've done everything asked of them. And because they said no to union representation, their decisions aren't being respected; they're being held hostage.”
The piece also outlines similar moves affecting companies governed by the National Labor Relations Board. The Boeing Co., for example, has been accused by the NLRB of improperly investing in a $2 billion facility to build its 787 Dreamliner in South Carolina that will create 1,000 new jobs. The government claims Boeing built its new plant in South Carolina in retaliation for a series of strikes by the IAM. The government is trying to force Boeing to perform the work in Seattle instead.
Additionally, the column suggests that big labor’s Washington agenda is also about shoring up dues-paying membership that has declined in recent years.
“Attacking American businesses directly undermines the administration's stated goal of encouraging job creation and economic growth,” Richard said. “Delta has created new jobs, but unfortunately this environment makes it difficult to predict what we will be able to do going forward.”
